A quick model 70 question...

Just bought a Winchester model 70 super grade in 30-06; I'm probably just not understanding how this works but, does anyone know if this would be a long action or short action? What is the difference? I don't actually have the rifle in hand yet so it probably says in the manual but....

Long action. Has to do with bolt travel. 30-06 is a long cartridge. A short fat cartridge like 300WSM would function in a short action.

Originally Winchester made long actions with long magazines and long actions with short magazines with an extended bolt stop for the shorter throw required. In more recent years they have made short actions and long actions for the appropriate cartridges.
