A remake of the Fox A-Grade shotgun, by Savage

Savage owns the name. It's an "adjusted" RBL A & D action and they only come with 26" or 28" barrels. Won't fly.

On the other hand, offer a real A Grade Fox action with a proper assortment of barrel lengths and in 12, 16 and 20 gauge for $5000 US and watch them fly off the shelf.

Hmmm interesting. Nice to see a decent double come to market. Hopefully they sell enough to get traction to offer more options and variations.

Tough version of the chicken and the egg. Refinement, options and variations sell guns and excite people in the market for these guns, but they cost $ for consumer and manufacture. Many companies shy away and the models die, or do they tool up and chance not recouping cost but possibly reigniting the double popularity for bird guns.

Be nice to see one for sure.

There is a discussion right now on doublegunshop forum discussing this gun. Apparently it is made by CSMC.

Found that discussion. It left me a little confused because the Savage web page flat-out states the gun has a "Box Lock Design Hammerless Anson Deeley-style box lock action and Holland & Holland-style extractors," but the DGS consensus is that it's a sidelock. Anyway, they're clearly in a different shotgun world than I am with a lot more choices in double barrels, which is to say the USA where higher standards are possible. Oh well, Cabelas is a Savage dealer, there's at least a faint hope for me even though the Canadian price is likely to be horrendous. I like 26" barrels just fine in an upland gun BTW.

I'm not so sure it won't fly. IMO, it's an improvement on the RBL. I never liked the curved frame and prefer the straight Fox. The gun would appear to be trying to compete with the Beretta 486 which is in the same price range.

Kudos to Savage for staying with an American maker instead of going to Turkey.

No, what they are saying on there is that in the middle of the short video there is a shot of someone working on a sidelock. People are saying that if they couldn't even produce a pieced together video properly, how well is the gun made? It is a boxlock that really has no resemblance to an original Fox.

Yeah you're right, I blame tiny print and early morning....

Normally the only higher quality doubles I see for sale new are of course Browning O/Us. I can only hope Savage will market this new gun at least a little aggressively, meaning sending a few to Canada. I would hate to find one in the USA and love it and then pine away because I couldn't get one here, the usual state of Canuckian affairs. Hey, maybe if I'm lucky I'll hate the darn thing!

Haha, no. A Savage for 4k USD? Forget it. I know enough guys who got screwed on their rifles. I'd sooner try and wrangle a nice old European made side by side for that price.
