Last winter I assembled....perhaps re-assembled would be more accurate....a few Savage and Stevens rifles in various calibers just as winter entertainment projects. So far I enjoy them all and I still need to *re-assemble* a custom made 250 Savage barrel on to a Savage 110 rifle. One of the rifles I did was a fluted target weight barrel in 260 Rem and it shoots like a dream. Obviously there is a weight and length issue but it will make a very nice bench rifle and is not completely out of consideration to carry as a hunting rifle. I am a fan of 6.5's and the quarter bores in general and assembled a few 6.5x55 barreled actions from TradeEx a few years ago and added a few extras like Timney triggers etc really enjoy them as well.
The carbine length rifles and the newer concept Scout rifles have begun to intrigue me so now I am considering having a custom barrel in 260 Rem made at 18 inches and finding a drop mag Savage to spin it on. What kind of options might be available for a Scout type stock? I think that the 260 Rem would be a reasonable caliber for a Scout type rifle. What say you?
Dave.
