Gentlemen,

How about that many in your gun room. One thing I would like to ask if I may. What are they doing to our M1 Garands ?

Sorry about this pic. it was on old microfilm from the late 1940's

psIf you could hit my sites and I will post'em. I am trying to get a Sponsor to help with the cost of my sites.

It looks like they are not appreciating them as much as they should be. Gosh, if I was in that room, I'd find it hard to work.

Seriously though, and not knowing anything really, I would guess they are stamping, proofing rifles?

Nice; I've got a Springfield M1D, an accurized International Harvester, and a Winchester; my only regret is that we don't have any decently-priced 30-06 surplus available up here.

You sure this is not Klunk's basement?

Blahh!!

I would never own that many of one make/model...thats just weird

One example of EVERY military firearm EVER made is good enought for me

The Enfield museum in England would do:D

"Accurized"??
I have a '53 (or is it '54) IHC Garand, the rifle is amazingly accurate. Very pleased with it. Now I will admit I don't know much about smithing, but how do you go about accurizing a Garand? Are we talking NM bbl's and stuff like that?
Now tell me SDC, honestly, how accurate is that M1D. Is the rifle itself more accurate than a stock Springfield, or is the M1D only different due to the addition of the scope? I'm fascinated by M1C's and M1D's but you just don't see many around and those that you do (IF they are genuine), go for muchos dineros.

I think the rifles (primarily SA's) were selected for accuracy during test firing and then converted. They shouldn't be orders of magnitude more accurate though - if they seem that way, it's likely the optics.

My IHC has been glass-bedded (presumably for NM/DCM or Service Rifle matches)to the point where I can't even get it out of the wood (it was like that when I got it); it's very accurate, but I can't say I've tried it out past 300 metres. My M1D seems to be almost as accurate, but I almost never shoot it with the glass on, or tried an iron sights/M84 comparison at the same range (maybe when it warms up again :D)

Gentlemen,

Many of you had the answer or were very close. The answer to the photo above shows the following:

These M1 Garand Rifles are being checked and greasing the rifles is done by hand.

Time frame about 1943 ?

Take a look at the next file.
Thanks again
