a silly question about how to remove the ring attached to the sling stud on a 10/22.

Hi, I just bought a 10/22 target, my first.

I want to mount a harris bipod to it, but the sling stud is occupied by
a sling ring (roughly round metal ring for attaching a sling for the gun).
How do I remove this little thing without permenent damage?

Thank you.

you should be able to unscrew the stud once you get the stock off- then replace it with a stud for a detachable sling- uncle mikes makes a kit - the thread for the standard stud is 10/32- or you maybe just get lucky and unscrew the stud - counter clockwise- failing that, and it depends on how badly you want to mount that bipod, you could take a set of side cutters or dremel cutting wheel to the sling swivel loop-one cut, pull out the loop with a set of pliers, and mount your bipod there- the flanges on the harris bipod are the same size as your standard sling swivel loop-

Thank you very much. t-star.
This is the worst situation I was expecting:eek:.
I thought for a TARGET model, mounting a bipod should be a standard setup.
Guess I am wrong.

or you could drop an e-mail to CAROLE PETRIE at SNAPSHOTS@VIDEOTRON.CA and tell her" i want to put a DETACHABLE SLING on my 10/22 target- in order to do this , i have to remove the front factory sling swivel- does it just unscrew counter clockwise?"- that's the ruger technical dept in montreal- see waht she has to say- i see the tactical version does have the bipod- i can also understand ruger's reasoning- not everyone uses a bipod- a lot of shooters use a front bag or a small tripod with a bag-

Take a set of needle nose pliers, insert closed pliers in sling ring, then pull them open as hard as you can using both hands. The sling ring should pop out without damaging the stud. Mine did.
