Not everyone can be so lucky to have a 10.5 year old granddaughter who will probably be given a Cooper JSR with a Burris 6-24 Scope.
She has shot her dad's T22 before but this Cooper has a 6.5 oz trigger. She was warned about it being light and to not touch the trigger until she was on target.
There were too many shooting centerfire rifles on the rifle range so we had the Trap/pistol range to ourselves.
She was comfortable at first with the scope set at 8X, and it was moved up to 10, 12 and 16 before she agreed to 24X. Now she was tracking her shots.
She learned why the scope was going black and how to correct that problem.
The distance was 80 yards, and once she got comfortable she shot the following 10-shot groups.
1.28", 1.92", 1.72", 1.19" and 1.67".
She was loading her own mags, operating the bolt with authority and concentrating.
The ammunition was Federal Match 922A.
I videoed her during one five-shot string and it was just under one minute.
We finished the session with her shooting four 5-shot groups on the 100 Yard Unlimited Match target with the following scores.
48-0X, 47-2X, 48-2X and 48-1X.
Now it was time to clean up and go eat . . . another treat of her choosing.
She was happy and GrandDamnDad too.
