I got this cracked Ruger 10/22 International stock two weeks ago.

So I repaired it and refinished it to help hide the evidence of a repair.

Finished product of the oil finish. This is not a stain.

But I was missing the end cap. I got in contact with Snap Shots but geez I haven't got a clue from the conversation we had if I ordered the cap or not.

So I made one instead. :p

Now this 10/22 is ready for a glorious day at the range tomorrow! :ar15:

It doesn't look at good as a factory end cap but its perfect until I get the original. I will find out how well it performs tomorrow.

Till next time.

Looks really good. What material is the DIY end cap made out of?

Just a heads up, SnapShot/Ruger Canada takes their sweet time with replacement parts. I've waited 3 months with over a hundred back and forth emails (not an exaggeration) just to get my barrel replacement.

Wow great fix, what product did you use to refinish it? I also have a 10/22 with beech or Birch stock which was looking a little rough, gave it to a buddy to re do and had disastrous results using stains so i painted it. Even after a couple products he could not get a uniform finish to it. Could easily strip it and try again some day but i have two young boys at home so have to pick my projects carefully. I would like to know what Ruger uses to cover that ugly wood as well as other companies that use crap wood. It must be some sort of oil/paint dip or something.

As for my experience with Snap shots it was quite good. I had the receiver crack on my 10/22 so i contacted Ruger which put me onto Snap Shots. They had me send the whole rifle which they replaced the receiver and sent back, the process took 3 weeks including mail time.

Steel. Its a magazine retainer plug for a 12 gauge shotgun.

Its Sherell's Schaftol Extra Dark. Its a stock oil instead of a stain. When I stripped the old finish, chunks of brown flakes were coming off so yes I believe they paint or dip it. The original finish looks nothing like the woods grain now. The first coat of oil on this stock looked horrible but the best thing about oil is eventually after so many coats it will begin to reveal the stocks natural grain and colour. That's why it has a bit of a red tint to it. Its a timely process though which takes 1 week to 4 weeks depending on the quality of the wood. This one took 1 week because its cheap wood. Higher quality wood takes 3 - 4 weeks.

how did you crack your stock?

Was given to me like that. Wasn't told what had happened. I saw a new Ruger 10/22 International and I was hyperventilating over the idea of selling my current 10/22 so I could buy that one. I went home and decided I would think about it for a couple of days then came up with the idea if it was possible to find just the stock. Luck would have it, someone had an international stock that needed to be repaired.
