can anyone help me out?

The mag was the Doppeltrommel for the MG15 and the MG34

Can't find a pick of the one for the MG34. It was a bit different.

The "doppeltrommel" (double drum) was seen on the MG34, but the French used a huge side-mounted drum on their M1931 MG as well. The Russians had several versions of their Degytarev MG with top-mounted pans, but I don't recall any with a side-mounted mag.

The other interesting thing about the "doppeltrommel" is that it is EXEMPT from Canada’s 5/10 round magazine law. I imported 2 for my ST61, a water cooled version of the MG15, with no problems.

PS In case you're wondering, unfortunately the ST61 is deactivated

Interesting thing about the MG34 mag.
The mag itself is not too outrageously expensive (~US$300???), but the special top cover plate that it mounts to, is hugely rare and expensive. I dont know how much, but lots of $$.

Just curious since you are a MG owner - what's Canadian law's position on belt fed ammo? Isn't really a magazine is it?

Until the advent of the electrically-powered Gatling/"minigun" types, the Gast had the highest rates of fire ever seen, and it sort of surprises me that the Allies didn't continue with the design after the Armistice; instead, they scrapped the vast majority of them, and it's hard to find any info on them (they are in Chinn's "Machinegun" books, though).
