I was thinking the other day about the mossberg 590a1 with the 20 inch barrel. Anyways, because the barrel thickness is thicker on the a1, I wonder if it would be possible to have the barrel threaded to accomodate different choke tubes, full and modified to be specific. You could use these tubes for better patterns with birdshot, and take them out for buck and slugs! That would make this very fine shotgun just about PERFECT in my mind! What does everyone think about this or has it been discussed before?

Yes, the A1 barrel wall is thick enough to be threaded for a choke system. It's been done many times. I've thought about getting my barrel threaded as well. I may do it before this spring since I don't shoot a whole lot in winter.

You can shoot slugs through chokes just not the extra full turkey chokes
