For some stupid reason I woke up too early and thought I would go out and let off a few rounds instead of tossing and turning and/or waking up the family. Nice summer morning...blah, blah, blah. So I packed up a bunch of stuff in to my CRV and went just slightly out of town to a buddy's place. I've been doing a build on a 10/22 and am just waiting for the barrel to arrive for it to become the "ultimate gopher missing machine" (the way I have been shooting lately), anyways....I thought I would plug a few pop cans with some different ammo and brought my Condor along. For those of you who don't know what a Condor is, it's a PCP air rifle in .22cal with a variable velocity. I used my Condor and my (uncompleted) 10/22 for the test. I used a Predator (16 grain) hollow point ballistic tip pellet for my first shot and a Baracuda Match (21 grain) pellet for my second shot. I haven't chronographed my air rifle this year (yet) but still assume it is shooting around the 1000-1100 fps range. The pop cans were shot at about 20 yards. For the third shot I used a CB Long and the fourth shot was a MiniMag. The fifth and sixth were Velocitors and they make a dirty mess on pop cans, as you can see.
My conclusion is...if you really want to destroy cans, use Velocitors. I would imagine they will work equally as well on pretty much anything else too.
Edit to add...in the last pic you can see the top of the pop can a ways away from the rest of it. That separation also happened with the fifth can, although I didn't take pics of it.
