When my son told me that that my Grandson was eager to start shooting I wasted no time in locating him a CZ 452 Scout rifle from Prophet River but I thought the little rifle needed some upgrades to turn it into a good training rifle. He received the stock rifle in time for Christmas last year, and when he was coming to visit this summer I wanted to surprise him with the upgraded version. Alas, it wasn't to be as there was a hold up in getting the Foolproof CZ 452 Scout specific sight, so he had to make do shooting my .22, and light centerfire rifle and handgun loads. Anyway, his rifle is finished and waiting for his return home after a busy summer of visiting. I gave him a Safari Ching Sling while he was here to go on it, and he learned how to adjust it while shooting the Husky '06.

The improvements include:
Williams Foolproof rear sight
Ruger barrel band front sight with a rectangular post
glass and pillar bedded
trigger adjusted to 2.5 lbs, and to take care of any creep and over-travel
action slicked up
recut crown
replaced plastic butt plate with a rubber pad
install QD swivels, with the front swivel mounted on the forend tip

These are the pics my son sent of the rifle as it looks now

I think it turned out pretty nice, thanks once again to my friend Dave Jennings.

I had contemplated putting together almost the exact rifle a year or so ago but just couldn't justify it as I have a 10/22 and a HW77 with the same Foolproof sights for practice. Really nice setup and can be used well into ones "mature" years. The boy's got the equipment and proper instruction, he's well on his way to becoming an accomplished rifleman!

While he visited here I had him try a few different guns, concentrating on my wife's Husky 1600 which has a short LOP. It appears as though he has his positions worked out, I got him to lean farther forward in sitting, and sometimes the sling slips down his arm a bit, but by the time he left he could sling up and get into a good solid position quickly, understands how to check and correct his natural point of aim, and how to properly use the sights. He got a kick out of shooting the '06, with mild loads, although he was more confident shooting a .22. The key is he wants to be a good shot and that makes him a good student.

How is the quality of that Williams sight? I'm interested in ordering one from the States for a similar setup on a CZ.

I guess no machining or anything was required?

The Williams Foolproof is excellent quality and they are made firearm specific so normally there are no alterations needed to your gun. I also have a Foolproof on my '94 Winchester and I like the traditional styling of these sights on a traditional rifle . These sights are available with screw or finger adjustments and my preference is for the finger adjustable model. I like being able to make fast adjustments for windage and when the rifle is being put away I like to return the sight to its mechanical zero, until the next time it is used. While the quality of these sights is top notch, there is a down side in that a gallows style sight, that is one that rides on a single elevation leg connected to one side of the receiver with the aperture mounted in the center of it's cross bar, is more prone to damage than say an aperture sight that mounts to the top of the receiver, to the tang, or on the cocking piece of a bolt, because if the rifle is dropped the sight will surely bend, and I have seen a few Williams and Lymans that have suffered this type of injury. All the same, I think its a great choice of sight for any of the CZ rimfires and for a number of other applications as well.
