I have a 1965 Winchester Model 100 chambered in 284 Winchester
The stock has a recoil pad and has been refinished with Birchwood Casey Tru Oil and looks brand new no dings, scratches etc. All the rest of the gun is original and the bluing is real nice, the clip bluing is partly worn off.
The rifling is good, and would expect 2-300 rounds fired.
Comes with Hornady dies, 30 original Winchester 150gr cartridges, approx 60 reloaded with 154gr Hornady spire point, and approx 70 fired cases.
I dont know gun rating % but I would say this gun is at least 90% if not better. I am having trouble posting pictures but will include asap.

any help would be appreciated. thanks Jack

As an 88 and 100 collector, it saddens me when I see refinished stocks. It is just a shooter now. Is there a stamp on the top inside of the receiver that indicates the firing pin modification has been done?

Thanks Grouse Man

This was my daughter in laws rifle for about five years, when she got it I cut the stock and installed a recoil pad, did some load development, and we were all happy with the results.

She has decided she wants another rifle so I bought it , refinished it, and have a very nice looking and very functional firearm.

In years to come it will probably be passed down to my grandson.

thanks for you comments. Jack

It is still a great hunting rifle! The 284 was so far ahead of its time that, that it should get popular soon :) Just ask NULA what their most popular round is.

Good shooting and hunting!

.284 Win is a great round. It'll be desirable as a hunting rifle, not as a collector. That price sounds reasonable.

Hmmm...my opinion is quite diff.
The 284 is a collector...yes..but in a M-100 Win not at all a good hunting rifle.
Most 284 owners would be reloaders, & chaseing brass around the bush after being flung out of an auto loader is a major PITA!!
Besides the case being an odd stupid size for some unknown reason, it really does nothing a number of other calibers don't do as well or better.
Give me a good 280 any day or if it had to fit a short action like a M-100 a 308 is a far better choice....IMHO ;)

Well, the odd size for a stupid reason was Winchester trying to get 270/280 performance out of a short action. A rebated rim, "fat cartridge" was how they did it. Kinda the first Short Mag all the way back to 1963. It reached its finest (arguably) when necked down to 6.5 for a long range cartridge that duplicated the 6.5 Rem Mag and 6.5-06 performance in a short action that headspaced on the shoulder.

As far as brass, i have stock piled over 1000 new cases in Winchester and 500 Lapua 6.5-284. If I lose 2 or 3 empties over a hunting season, I probably have some meat in the freezer so I am okay with that trade off.

Second only to my 270's (8 of them), I have 5 284's and love them all. I do trim the necks on every reload though. I do prefer the 88 over the 100 for hunting but both are worth having.

Someone will likely point out that a long action allows the bullet to be seated out and if you are using the 284 Shehane that makes sense for long range competition. One of the guys I shoot F Class with has a beauty.

To each their own and that is why we have thousands of Calibers and Cartridges.

Like I mentioned earlier, NULA says it it is their number one choice for their incredible lightweight hunting rifles ordered by knowledgeable shooters.

For me, I like to own something off the beaten path and the 284 fits that description and is an incredible performer.

Will get off my soapbox now:)
