Hello SCAR clone fans.

I just had some warranty work done on the bolt carrier group on my MK22, specifically the tiny screws that hold the bcg housing together stripped out the holes.

Blue Line Solutions took care of the warranty work, but advised me that the bcg was not intended to be taken apart for regular cleaning. I was informed that the new screws didn’t all lock-in to the new bcg housing and that they had been loctited in, and that if I took it apart that I should reapply loctite.

As a rule, I take my guns down to the firing pin after each use and clean them from there out. My contact at BLS said he would suggest additional or alternative measures to hold the housing together, but that simply spray cleaning and using q-tips and a brush would be sufficient for regular cleaning.

I intend to follow this procedure and hope this post helps prevent any of y’all from having a similar issue with what is otherwise the funnest .22 I have ever owned.

Those pins are great, but not what I’m referring to. Those screws hold the upper and lower together.

It’s the screws that hold the bcg housing together that stripped out the housing holes.

I'm not familiar with this gun, but in industry, when threads strip out, we would replace it with a thread insert such as Helicoil. The holes would need to be drilled, tapped, and the inserts installed. I think Canadian Tire and Amazon carry them.

Well if the prescribed cleaning method doesn’t cut it, and I need to start messing around with the bcg housing again, I will look further into these Helicoils of which you speak. Thanks for the info Meroh.
 
Thanks for posting your experience with the screws.
Please excuse the question as I am NEW to this rifle and still thinking whether to buy it or not.
Could you show a picture of the mentioned stripped screws locations? If you only have to undo the other Upper and Lower connecting screws then why go to those you mentioned?

No problem at all to answer your question, I take all my guns down to the firing pin when I clean them. I enjoy it.

I would happily email some internal pics and you can post them if you like, but I don’t do third party pic posts. Just pm me with your email addy.
 
Thanks for the tip. I've only taken it down that far once, usually just remove upper and lower, and use some spray cleaner and an old tooth brush to get in there and clean everything up, and a boresnake for the barrel.

I LOVE this gun.... I may have convinced a couple others to get one lol
