Ok, so I was installing the wood furniture on my VZ-58. Things went mostly smoothly, the grip was no problem, the buttstock was no problem, the upper handguard gave me a bit of trouble thanks to the wood being thicker (I'm still going to have to sand the inside down bit to be able to use the retainer) than the composite original. Then came the lower handguard... I got the pin out and the original one off easily. I attached the metal piece to the rear of the wood handguard, and had to futz around with it to get it to fit, cause the wood is thicker than the composite. So after farting around with it for a while, I got it on. I started to drive the pin back and it jammed about 3/4 the way into the hole. So, I took my punch, and tried to drive it back out, it got to about 1/4 left in the receiver, and the pin jammed tight, the punch even got stuck, so I'm guessing I mushroomed the pin inside the receiver. I put the pin into my bench vise and was able to turn the whole rifle on the axis of the pin, but the pin would not come out any further... so, has anyone got an idea how I can remove that pin, and where I can get new one?

Thanks.

Cheers!

Drill out the old one - put a request ad in the EE - lots of parts kits out there.
If you dont get one from EE you can get various pins at Princess Auto etc.
If you cant find a pin at an auto store get some brass rod from a hobby store cut it to size and mushroom the ends or use a dab of epoxy if its a loose fit.
Or you can use a long nut and bolt.

this roll pins are fairly soft. Probably did mushroom it.

Hey where'd you get your wood furniture set?

The EE! I got a complete set minus the upper handguard, and then I got a new wood one from Obiwanbonjovi.

What I noticed with the wood set is that the handguard pieces are thicker, and slightly larger than the composite pieces, so after I get the pin out, I'm going to sand the lower handguard down a bit so everything lines up correctly. The wood furniture really looks nice on these rifles!

Can't really help with your issue, but I had to do alot of fitting work to nearly every piece to get my wood furniture to fit, but man was it worth it.

Wood

Nice work! :agree:
But I must confess a strange liking for that ''Beaver barf'' composite... it is an ingenious and practical way to make something this durable. It is not pretty but it works.
And it is original.
Oh well, I'll have to buy another VZ-858 to try experiments in furniture and optics.
PP.
