I want to get a psitol caliber carbine come the new year.
After going through the possible contenders- I've dwindled it down to two: Beretta CX4 Carbine (w/ NR Rebarelling), and the JR Carbine.

Here's why I've brought it down to those two:
-Available in 9mm.
-Large availability of aftermarket accessories
-Proven track record of the magazines used

And also- each has some glitches:

Beretta
-Would have to be re-barrelled to NR. (Don't want an Restricted Carbine)
-I don't have any 92F magazines, but some could be had.

JR Carbine
-Stetchy, flimsey look
-A lot of mixed reviews
-Complicated breakdown (I'm a simplistic type of person)

So- is the Beretta worth the extra cash for a gun that a cultural standpoint? Is the JR's issues fixed, and is it worth investing into what appears to be an unrefined carbine?

I've had a beretta storm for some time in cal .40
It's definitely worth the money and won't give you grief. I still don't understand the non restricted song. If you start messing with it it might not be flawless anymore.

Seeing as its taking 2+ months to have an ATT issued here in Bantario, the less restricted stuff I have, the better

WOW,,,, my last restricted purchase was 36 hours not days.

Its been 2 months to the day that I did my ATT Training at the range. At the time I didn't have the Glock, but a week after, I got it, and sent the information to the guy at the club who takes care of the ATTs.

I emailed him today, and he told that that its unacceptable, and that I probably should've told him sooner. I was told that he'll have a update on it by noon Monday.

I had a 9mm storm of the first converted sets.....worked perfectly with 92 mags...never had a FTF or a jam up except with a dud round...which was few and far between.

The Storms are great little carbines.

Go for the JR Carbine. I bought one a few weeks ago and I've found it to be a solid, well built, well engineered firearm that has performed flawlessly - not a single feed/ejection problem after several hundred rounds. It is also quite accurate. It contains fewer than 40 moving parts which have all been engineered to reduce wear and tear. With the exception of the stock and pistol grip (both AR parts) the entire rifle is made out of metal (aluminum alloy and steel). My one and only complaint is that it is marginally involved process to strip it.

The Baretta is butt ugly, sorry. I have the JR carbine and love it. Looks similar to an AR, fun to shoot. I'm ordering a barrel shroud to make it look a little beefier. It is a pain to take down, but I'm used to the Ar.

@Mantis & xman111 : Is an AR tool required to take down a JR Carbine? Also seeing as I have no experience with the AR system- how noob friendly is it?

Although a 9mm Glock magazined JR would be beneficial for me (I have a G4 G17 w/ 3 mags), I'm still leaning towards the Cx4, because from the reviews and range reports I've read, the JR has some FTF issues, whereas the Cx4 has no issues.

@Blue_Fish : I can't find any info on this rifle. Want to fill me in?

@Backwoods : I was considering the KRISS but its the price tag that threw me. $2000+ tax and shipping, whereas I figure with the rebarrelling, taxes and shipping from Wolverine would be approximately $1800. Could be wrong though- John from Wolverine hasn't got back to me with a quoted price.

i think the original JR's had some FTF/FTE issues. I think that is fixed with the newer versions. They are offering free upgrades to earlier version JR's with the bolt/buffer upgrade kit to fix FTF/FTE..

An AR tool would be helpful and could probably be purchased at most gun dealers - in fact the JR Carbine tool would be better - I spoke to my vendor Al Simmons in Hamilton and they are going to look into importing some. Having said that, you can take it down without any specialized tools - it's just easier with a proper castle nut wrench. It's actually quite easy to disasseble and re-assemble the rifle - my only complaint is that it requires hand tools (hex wrench and castle nut wrench and/or a flat head screw driver and a hammer/mallet).

As far as FTFs go- never had one even with cheap MFS ammo. I've put over 500 rounds through mine so far and never had the slighest problem.

Another advantage of the JR Carbine is that it uses a lot of AR parts (such as the stock, pistol grip, and fore arm) meaning that you have a lot of options to swap them out and customize the rifle to your liking.

LOL- Mantis, you sir have changed my mind. An NR AR? Sign me up.
Wolverine should sell the AR tool? Or is there a more technical term for this tool?
