Picked up a 18.6" light barreled 1/9 twist 223 xcr keymod today. Mounted a 1.75-5x32 Burris Signature Safari in Burris Hi Tac rings to get my proper cheek weld.

If the wind drops below 50 kph I will likely do a range day tomorrow.

Any suggestions on ammo weights for after the break in? I'm thinking 69 SMK Feds or some Hornady 75 gr BTHP over Varget I have loaded. It will be my yote gun if it makes the cut......

What say ye?

Mine actually shot 55gr really well but I didn't do much testing to be honest.

But man "If the wind drops below 50" ...what kinda excuse is that? I'd be out there in -45* with 75km wind if I had a ###y new setup like that! Haha I did actually shoot in wind chill values below -50 once, it was not worth it.

I know, I know but my hair gel won't hold after about 40 kph. lol

So the 1/9 twist barrel seems to shoot the lighter better? I think I may have some Hornady Superformance 53 gr.

been getting good results with 55gr noslers BT over varget. Have some hornady 53grs made up but the wind here is making it difficult as well.

I have AE 50 and 55 gr, Hornady 55 gr and 53 gr Superformance, and Fed 69 SMK GMM and some 69 and 75 gr handloads to break it in.

Any comments on gas setting for break in? Manual says 4, Forum FAQ says set as low as will cycle properly.

Was out yesterday to try and shoot but wind was 30-35 kph and gusting higher. So I drove around looking for coyote tracks crossing concession lines.

image.jpgI started on 4 , but quickly moved to 2 . At 2 there still flying about 15 ft. These were the groups I got , first day out. All 5 rnd groups at a 100 yards, using a 2x7 scope. I've got a couple hundred hand loads done up,53 and 55 g. Vmax. I'm gonna try them next weekend.

To be honest I used whatever rounds were closest. I got 100 rounds of Speer Gold Dot for the break in ( RA said break in is between 200-500 rounds if memory serves) on setting #4 and they ran flawlessly. After that I finished a box of Remmington UMC bulk ammo 55g, they worked fine too, then moved to Federal xm193 55g and Norinco cheap milsurp 55g. Cycled all those rounds great. I think I may have had one FTE with the UMC but flawless for the rest of it. I am sure you will be very happy with it. I am including a cleaning video for you if you are new to the XCR-L. Probably preaching to the choir here but perhaps it will be helpful. Happy shooting :)

Thanks, I really appreciate the vid. XCR is new to me, I'm from the States and more used to AR platform.
