Abolt observation

There is no way that someone who knows what they are doing can do worse with a a bolt mag compared to a cheap rem floorplate or chincy plastic tikka type clip imo. If I were to complain about anything on the abolt, it would the piss around getting the trigger below 4lbs, not the mag.

i bent that mag retention spring but it still works you have to put the mag in properly instead of just push it in a poor design also i cant drop a 270 shell on the follower and chamber it the bullet stops on the breach every time. it doesnt load that well from the top and is definitely a poorer detachable mag system. i still like the rifle but the xbolt which i also own is superior magazine.the bolt system i dont know which is better but the abolt has a better trigger i think i lightened mine with a new 7 dollar spring took me 10 minutes it was not a bad 3.5 pound trigger before that anyway plus its old style

Eagleye, the fellows in BC have different tastes than other parts of the coumtry.Archie your coments, well,to be expected, from you,and your part of the country.

Yeah if oppertunuity presents while im on route to or fro the hunting grounds but i dont have any time for those who drive around hunting for them...
like the guy said, "i drove 1500 miles an seen no moose"
i bet if he walked just 1km in the bush an back he would find a moose/animal.. an its so much more enjoyable, I freaking love being in the bush, not much beats it!

Thats funny about the deer an moose Decoys in the scrub.... good on the guys behind that!

On topic about the Abolts, I really cannot see the issue with the mags myself, An the trigger is quite stiff from the factory but i asked CGNs about the issue an some said to change Spring an some said to cut the spring, so i took the easy way out an just cut the original spring a few coils an i now have a much better trigger.

The Abolt hit a deer yesterday afternoon just before dark by a friend, i have to go an find it today after we did 1.5 hours looking yest.
its rained all night so blood trail wil be gone, luckily i think its hit good enough to not be far away.... fingers crossed

Well, they put them in ditches and places where it is not legal to shoot them. Not only do you get busted for that, but also for the various other infractions that go along with it...like the loaded rifle in a vehicle...discharging in a vehicle...all those little rules that flashback (from the PAL course) when they are busily writing out the charges.

Not fun.

No problem Tinkerbell. Nothing screams freedom like jamming a bullet into a bear skull while he enjoys his last meal. Not wearing orange of course.

Gotta be careful with that here in Alberta. Dem smart SRD's (SaRDines) set up fake mooses and deers then hide behind the bushes. Up the road comes some hunter, two or (in one setup) 12 separate hunters whom quickly put the magazines into the rifles and let fly with the bullets. All are charged and have to go to Court to plead for mercy.

Make sure you follow the rules is all I'm saying. :p

Legal in BC to shoot from most unpaved roads. Just gotta get out of the truck.

I noticed in a thread about, love hate rifles, an the Abolt popped up quite a bit especially the magazine was hot topic.

why is it that so many people hate that magazine setup??

i personally found it very practical, if not the best?[/QUOTE]

Exactly! Especially when the quick choice has to be made: snatch or snap? :p

Over the years I have owned five ABolts and two XBolts.

There is nothing wrong with the design of an ABolt magazine. Matter of fact I get to like it over the years.

The Xbolt magazine is also pretty neat as well.

i also own an a bolt i have accepted that the magazine system sucks and i like the gun anyway. Sure its better than just a floorplate in some respects but why open a floorplate to get to it. And then you have to carefully place your mag not to wreck the retainer spring. It defeats the quickness and safety of the detachable mag.
