about Tokarev SVT 40

You need either an SVT or a Garand ,at least one seminal semiauto because they were so important historically. You also need a K98 and an Enfield.
In a perfect world you would also have a PPSH ,MP40 and a Sten.

Since I am a edged weapons collector I need a FS Dagger first or second pattern and a Hitler youth dagger. Forget all the flashy nazi SS dress daggers the Hitler Youth dagger is iconic ,well made and important historically because the design and rumor has it even some of the real daggers got made into US boy scout knives. Extra points for a Japanese military Katana preferably in army mounts so when someone is complaining about how badly we treated the Japanese living in Canada during WW2 we can point out we were not chopping their heads off like they were to our citizens. I am going to get one just so I can point to it and say things like "I wonder how many women and children were killed with that"? or "I wonder if that sword was there for the rape of nanking? ,I hear the commander now has a statue in Tokyo".

Depends what your focus is...

An SVT-40 fits a couple of niches:
-WWII Soviet main battle rifle
-Example of WWI era semi-auto
-Fun and reliable semi plinker

If you can justify any of those, jump on it.

my question : is SVT 40 a MUST for a world war two personal collection?

Well it is a fitting addition to such a collection, and are currently available in good condition here at a price that Americans would die for (due to import restrictions there against semi-auto milsurps from the former Soviet Union). They are currently selling there for more like $750-1000 USD.

I realize that $500 is still a fair bit to pay (having picked up several of my milsurps from back when they averaged just over $100 each), but it's a good rifle and a decent investment. Mine arrived last Friday, so I have to admit that I'm a bit biased.

Cheers,

Frank

where did you get it from and how much?

I suppose that the price was more like $475 ($429 plus 5%GST and about $20 shipping) and I got it from Tradeex. It has one stock repair by the tang that's well done (not too noticable), a nice looking bore (considering how many of them tend to have some frosting) and is otherwise a typical rework. It is dated 1941.
