My name as a collector finally got out in my area, and was given this pistol after a death. Never in a collectors hands. Last owner was supposedly a relative of the vet that brought it back.
Came in a nice p.08 holster.

Ac44 d block, all matching, e/359 mag.

Saved from the smelter, lucky for you and that P38 someone was using there head instead of taking the path of least resistance and turning it in for destruction (and maybe a crappy camera).

Usually this sort of thing turns out be pretty rough when someone 'finds' something in a family estate. I gotta admit, this is a nice example despite not coming from a previous collection. Nice!

That holster is marked for a Luger "P.08"

A P-38 holster should be marked "P.38"

Nice gun though.
I have the matching byf 44 (except for the ac 359 mag) that my uncle brought back from Europe. It also came in a P08 holster complete with a P08 stripping/loading tool. I once asked him about the holster and he said that was the way he got it.

I have an AC43 with all matching numbers and in similar condition as the OPs. It also came with a P-08 holster in about the same condition. I suspect many of the fellows that carried the pistols preferred the 08 holsters over the pieced together soft shell holsters. They fit well and offer better protection. It could also be there weren't enough soft shell holsters available for all of the issued pistols. That's just speculation on my part of course.

This never happens to me and I have never been as lucky as you were on this one. (sob, hic, sniffle)

Therefore, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your crouch.

woodwork stuff take a lot of work, and luck.

This one was a bit of a roller coaster though. Turned out the vet had registered it in 1957. Died, no one knew so eventually his wife for rid of it without knowing the procedure......yeah. Reg cert is on the way though!

I know I could have kept the p.08 holster for it, but I'd prefer a soft shell p38.

Beautiful find! Excellent luck on this piece. Was there any story behind this piece?

The k98's you have from the woodwork, were they bring backs?

My one true remaining woodwork k98k is a dou43, completely matching and textbook with sling. It's from the USA though. Only way to determine a bring back is capture papers, or a duffle cut of some sort. Mine had the bayo lug pin knocked out so the stock would fit in a mail home box.
