What do you feel is acceptable accuracy for ORPS? What’s your base line for choosing acceptable ammo? How about what you feel is acceptable for CRPS?

I’m trying to sort out a back up choice for ammo this year as the SK I normally shoot is hard to come by and is costly when I can get it.

I shoot a savage B22FV SS. I used it last year and by far I was the only limiting factor. It’s a very accurate rifle and shooting SK Long Range Match at 100yards off a bench in low winds I can reliable average 5 shot groups under 1”. My last two outings were:
1. 4x5 shot groups averaged out to .935”
2. 8x5 shot groups averaging out to .964”

But like I said that SK ammo’s a hot commodity and hard to find. So yesterday I was out with it trying some more cheaper bulk stuff I have, mostly for fun and cause was a great low wind day.

With CCI SV I had some incredible groups and some not so great groups. It averaged not to bad over 7x5 shot groups 1.218”. Funny enuff CCI SV groups over 2” in my CZ457

Federal Auto match was horrid in the B22 averaging 2.14” over 7x5 shot groups. Oddly my CZ loves this stuff pulling off 1.316” over a 5x5shot groups.

Even though the cci average was good I think it varies to much personally for competition the worst group was nearly 2” but the best was just about 1/2”.

Guess I should try some more eley (b22 don’t care much for contact 1.5” avg but the CZ loves it). And maybe some RWS i guess. I have ruffly a brick of SK long range match left and a couple bricks of SK Standard plus (shoots almost as good as the long range match just has the odd flyer.

1.5" 10shot 100m in perfect conditions - this is good enough to clean (score 100%) on every ORPS course of fire and win every CRPS match.

For a starting point, 1.5" or better at 100.... 4" at 200.... sub 10" at 300. That will cover both ORPS and CRPS with lots of possible hits on target.

SK/Lapua ammo is coming into Canada soon. If in the OK valley or can pick up, send me an email or pm.

The rifle only has to be good enough that you can't blame it if you don't position, stabilize, and shoot all the targets ahead of the time call.

Target size average is different in each. Outlaw on average can be twice the size of crps or nrl when mils are calculated for each stage

With orps you can get away with cheaper ammo like cci SV or seller and ballot match. Most of the time those types of ammo kind of fall apart outside 100 m even though the SD can be similar to more expensive match ammo. When I run crps matches my targets are generally 3-4 moa.
