I currently shoot my AR-15 w/o a scope, just iron sights. the indoor range i shoot at only goes up to 25m and i'm able to hit my target well enough. what's considered a good grouping for someone shooting standing (unsupported) or leaning on the bench?

what i could google or youtube has ARs with scopes on them and i haven't been able to find anything on this topic in the search function either.

I was doing something like 3-4moa with irons at 100, prone
at 25yrds, standing, I wouldn't over think it. It's not much of an indication of your or the rifle's accuracy.

Yeah I don’t think he’s talking about his rifles accuracy though, but rather, the combination of the rifle and his skill, and whether his accuracy is on par with what most competent shooters could do in the same circumstances.

Op, if you’re keeping groups to 2” or so, standing at 25 yards, you’re doing well.

Anything larger than 1.2 MOA is unacceptable.

Seriously, at 25 m standing with sling support or no support, I would consider a palm-sized group pretty decent.

Yea, just don't want someone to be discouraged either if it's a big group. Like, someone shot 5moa with AE ammo, I wouldn't have an opinion because it's cheap ammo.
10moa might be a concern though lol

The 5 bull for mapleseed(25m, standing with sling) is about 2.8"wide and 2.5"tall, ideally I would say most hits will be inside that kind of area.

Typically I can cover my shots with my hand at 25 m with MBUS Pro Off Set sights with the thin blade. At 100 m not quite all rounds (5) are on the sheet of a 8 -1/2" x 11" paper target.

jesus. standing or prone? i currently have to stand as my range is indoors.

If you’re shooting at Target Sports last time I was there they had stools and several shooting blocks on each range to zero your guns from the bench. If you’re keen to shoot rifles though predict you’re going to get bored quickly on a 25 yard indoor range.

I've consistently done 100m (107 yard) 2.5" groups with my 14.5" C8 upper with norinco ammo.

Same here and with a hot pencil barrel at that! I find with a good brake, a flush 5 rounder or a 10 rd pistol mag, a x12 or 16 optic and a proper competition target stance (hense no banana clips) you could get a 1 moa @ 50 even with a sub $600 home build.

I can do about a toonie at 25 supported, standing I'd say a hand sized group would be perfectly reasonable just taking your time and pew pewing along.

I've done under 2" prone at 100 as well with nice ammo, my best was about 1.1". Don't be discouraged as you learn, best yourself and don't worry about others.
