I plan to purchase a new .22 LR semi-auto and would appreciate comments from shooters with experience. What "out of the box" semi usually gives the best groups? Any experience with the T/C Classic Benchmark Target Rifle?

i havent owned a semi .22 but i have used them and read alot of reports from people who own them.

from the reports i have read, the marlin 7000 is more accurate than the 10/22 out of the box. i think it would be safe to say that the TC would be more accurate than both.

Anschutz's seem to be among the best for not having to fuss with them at all.
Anschutz only made one semiauto model, I own a CIL'ed version and my particular copy is not particularly accurate, barely under MOA at 50.
It has a snug chamber and a decent trigger for a semi. I blame the takedown design.
My most accurate unmodified semi is a Voere 2112 deluxe.

I'm impressed with the Marlins. Own 2 of them - bolt action 22 mag and semi auto 7000T. Prior to this I had no experience with Marlin. Bought the 22 mag new at auction for a good price and was amazed at the accuracy. Then purchased the 7000T. I just love it. I can put 50 rounds basically into the bulls eye at 100 yds. Almost gets boring.

Unless they changed the model number's isn't the 2112 the bolt action?

My mistake, its registered as a 2115 but the barrel read rheinmetall 55.
Quite a few were sold in Canada at a department store in the 1970's.

the 10/22 will have the most aftermarket addons available, so it's easily the most versatile. Put a heavy barrel on it, install an aftermarket trigger, and maybe a target stock, and you can't go wrong.

Anschutz actually have made 5 different versions of their semi auto: 300, 470, 2 different 520's, and the 525. For me, the 525 and 470 that I owned were the most accurate out of the box. Presently, I have a 300 from 1968, it has a recessed factory crown, I've seen one other from 68 that had the same crown, all the earlier and later ones I've seen do not have this crown; I made one modification to it, I put a 525 bolt and spring in to it. When our weather breaks I will test it for accuracy.
Next to the couple Annie's that I owned, I agree with reg that the voere's are extremely accurate, I had a 2117 and it shot very well and had an adjustable trigger to boot. I also have a beretta "sport" 22 semi rifle that is quite accurate.
I have an infinity for semi auto 22's and have owned many different new and old ones over the last few years, I think what it boils down to is personal taste and how much you want to spend.

I believe the older Weatherby Mark XX11 models were made by Beretta. You don't hear of these guns much anymore but they were supposed to be pretty good accuracy wise.

Yeah the early one's were made by beretta, I had a Japanese made one circa 1980, it sure was something to look at, functioned perfectly, but the accuracy was'nt quite as good as some of the other rifles I've mentioned. Still, a very nice rifle.

I have a TC .22 classic. I had to send it back to the factory, and they sent a replacement due to FTF, FTE and kB problems.
