Curious if anyone has toyed with the plethora of current 17 offerings...Im shooting the Hornady 17 grainers with not much success out of my 597 HBLS:mad:

I'm not an expert in the .17 domaine but youcould try something a little bit heavier like CCI 20gr maybe the additional weight could give the bullet a bit more stability and reduce the variation

With the 597 that I had, I had issues when I first got it. I was almost going to take it back. Then I tried the last ammo type that there was at the time -- federal. They were acceptable. Then I free floated the barrel, and the rifle would regularly shoot 1 inch groups at 100m. Maybe not the best rifle in the world, but certainly not too shabby.

597 .17hmr

I have the plain jane, blued/sysnthetic in .17 HMR and it shoots really well (usually under an inch at 100m, even with the nasty trigger) with everything except for the gold tipped remington bullets (go figure?). I was going to get rid of this rifle due to it jamming up every few shots and misfiring on occassion, but after reading up on some of the easy cures I will have to try those out and see how she performs
