Jeez CZ CZ CZ CZ. Nice guns, but the guy asked a question about Remingtons too!

I have a Remington 580 that has been done up as a target rifle and love it. Very smooth robust action, and the accuracy is excellent. The 581 is the exact same rifle as the 541, but has a non-adjustable trigger and sporter-weight barrel. If you like your 541s you will like the 580 series equally. Magazines are still quite readily available too.


My stock sucks as it is the original sporter stock meant for a .625 barrel, not the 1" tapered to .920 behemoth she currently sports. Rifle was very accurate with it's original barrel, but not anywhere close to what she now sports.

A bit less pricey 22's that are good include the CZ 452/453/455 rifles, the 580/581/582 Remingtons [only available used nowaday]
One of the older BRNO rifles in sporter contour, Winchester 69/69a, and a couple of the Savage offerings.
Even a couple of the older Mossberg offerings are worth a look...the 146 series and the 42 series come to mind.

There are several other sporter rifles that also would be in the running, but demand $$$, like the 75 and 52 Winchesters, and the 37/40X sporter Remingtons.

Personally i likethe old stuff. I have a couple Marlin 81s that were built in the 40s and still outshoot many new and big name guns. At about $100 each and $80 for mounts and D&T plus a 3x9x scope and I shoot the critters out to 200 yards. No need for a big cash outlay . Just shoot and know your gun, that is what it takes.
 
Thanks Eagleye, those were what I was thinking about. I had a Mossgerg (42?) that shot great. I'm not sure if I have seen a Rem. 40 sporter. The great thing about quality 22s is they last a lifetime. Most of us will shoot a 22 far more than any other rifle so I see spending a few more bucks on one a smart investment.
