One limitation with the CG63 and CG80 is that the rear sight elevations are not "click" adjustable. That means it is somewhat difficult to repeat elevation corrections for different distances. On the other hand, adjustments are infinite and you are not limited to click values. You can adjust "half a click", but it is a bit tedious.

If you settle on one load for a given distance, you can zero the turret for that range though so if it gets moved say in transit you can go back to the setting.
 
You can put a set of Refield Olympic sights on your Rem 700 no problem, just need to D&T front of barrel for the Olympic tunnel, and if your Rem 700 is an older type , it should be D&AT already, just buy the adaptor plate for the 700 and screw on the Redfield Olympic aperature sight!, if you need brand new sights, go to HPsights web page they have newly made sights at $400 a pop! cheers dale Z!

1/3 click sights or have they been changed to 1/4's? Looks like there is a screw or something on the front sight dove tail that is stopping the front sight from sitting flush with the front of the barrel band.
 
The Sportco is an interesting rifle. It has a very heavy walled action, solid on the bottom (more bedding surface) and only a loading port cut in the side. A very stiff action. Good locktime.

The only problem is that some lack good primary extraction, depending on how the barrel was fitted. easy to fix.

Most were modified by adding a third action screw between the main and tang screws.

These were developed in Australia as dedicated target rifles to replace the modified army rifles used as target rifles at the time. The Sporcto was a huge leap forward. Comparing a Sportco to a Mauser or P14 target rifle would be like a Corvette to a Kia.

Today, the TR rifles are even better, but the law of diminshing returns sets in after the Sportco. I don't think you can buy a set of front and rear sights today for the $500 budget the OP mentioned.

I have a Sportco my son won at Ottawa. A presentation model (better polish and blue) with a nicer stock than average.

It was bedded and used as his back up rifle. I doubt it has 100 shots through it. Includes Central sights.

$700 to a good home.

If your receiver, stock and barrel combination is shooting that well, take the hit and remove the scope. As Maynard wrote, there are a handful of very good repeatable iron sights on the market. CGN Sponsor Ian Robertson has the connections to get you front, inserts and base, rear sight and base.

Despite what the other guys are saying about CG63 rifles, they are a turn of the century design that was bypassed 40 years ago on the DCRA prize lists. There are better rifles out there, and frankly what you've got already sound pretty good.
 
I bought left hand Sportco 44 from Paul Riebin 20 years ago and I am into third barrel allready. Most of those have Shultz & Larsen barrel and there are no better barrels available for any money, mine does 1" at 300m all day with K12x40mmAO steel tube Weaver providing it's not to windy. Why the Sportco's are so affordable is a mystery for me b/c they will deliver the most accuracy for the least amount of money compared to any other rifle.

Todays best effort with my Wichita 308 target rifle with Central Sights @300 yards. (excluding the one on the extreme right)
I wish it was better, I pulled one badly & the wind shifted very strangely downrange. (honest!)
