So I have a Crossman Vigilante my wife got me for Christmas. Loving the gun. Shoots accurate and is dependable (no leaks and consistent POI). It has a lot of plastic though and does feel a bit cheap. In fact it was $65.

I am in the market for another revolver. Something else in a bit higher quality. I'm looking at the S&W 586 pellet and the Dan Wesson pellet guns. I want the accuracy so despite the cost of the shells and time to reload them I still will consider the DW.

My first priority would be accuracy. If the Crossman will out shoot them then I won't bother. If there accuracy is par or better then I will get one. Like the DW for the shells, Like the S&W as well.

Your advice and experience please. thanks

My two favorite air pistols are:
- Winchester Model 11 (1911 A1 blowback action pistol) [got mine at TSC on a 60% off sale for $70] (http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Winchester_Model_11_BB_Pistol/2718)
- Smith & Wesson M&P (non blowback) [I got mine on sale at Walmart for around $75) (http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Smith_Wesson_M_P_Black/1565)

However, more to your question. You specifically are looking for revolvers. Well there is one that may be of interest to you - Colt Peacemaker Single Action Army revolvers:
- Nickel Plated: http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Colt_Peacemaker_SAA_CO2_Revolver_Nickel/3568

Also, if you are into airgun shooting make sure you check out my article in the January/ February 2015 issue of The Backwoodsman magazine. Hope that helps, cheers

Thanks for the response. I will have to get the at magazine to see your article. I have a trap but am always interested in what others have done. The automatics you like are BB. I;m sure they are nice guns but I prefer the accuracy from the rifling and less ricochet of pellets. There are some automatics that shoot pellets with small revolver like 8 shot cylinders. Walther 88 comes to mind. I am hesitant though as I prefer if I has a pellet auto that the gun be blow back, and I don't care for the odd way they load. All the blow backs I see are BB. I already have a blow back airsoft Glock but will be sticking to pellet. Should I not find a suitable auto (blow back, pellet, and accurate) I would stick to double action revolver.

Thanks

Crossman Vigilante has a rifled barrel. I am not aware of any other revolver pellet guns with a rifled barrel. Most are just plain barrels for BBs. The colts look nice but I doubt they are as accurate.

Yep ASG Dan Wesson, Umarex S&W, and Crossman 357/Vigilante. They all have rifled barrels. Trying to find out which one is most accurate. I have the Crossman. Just trying to decide of the Dan Wesson or the S&W. Only interested in a pellet gun, Not a BB or airsoft.

I know you are looking for a revolver, but if you want accuracy from a pellet gun pistol, I would recommend the following:

1) Beeman P17 overlever single shot ($50) at many retailers. Or you can get the Weilrauch HW40, which it was cloned from, at a higher price.
2) Daisy Avanti 717 or 747 side lever. Accurate pistol no matter what pellet you use. 747 has a Walthers barrel.
3) Webley Alecto overlever in .177 or .22 calibre. Higher end.

The most accurate revolver in a pellet I have would probably be the Crosman 357, but CO2 is useless outside in the winter.

Just my opinions.

Good choices. I will be using this in a competition. Up to 12m. No optics. Up to 24 shots needed within 1.5 minutes (think PPC style) eliminate single shot guns. Need a revolver or automatic for sure. The revolvers seem to out shoot the auto's as far as I can see. Still see this coming down to:
1. Crosman 357/Vigilante
2. Umarex S&W 586
3. ASG Dan Wesson pellet

I got the vigilante recently aswell and went through the same process, also was not a fan of the plastic, I did some tinkering on the vigilante to improve it a little (lighter smoother trigger, barrel crown and closed up the gas from escaping past the mag) and got incredible accuracy but those plastic handles...

So before finally deciding on a 2240 for many reasons... I was inches away from buying a Smith & Wesson U-6866 from D&L, it has the best reviews I've seen, it blows away the dan Wesson in both performance and feel. If you stick to wanting a .177 replica-ish pistol then I recommend it strongly.

Well my best friend and I ordered one each with 500 Co2 cylinders and from another company an additional 3 mags each. The guns came in a nice fitted hard case with cleaning brush and two mags. It even comes with 3 front sights with different widths. The guns shot about 50% tighter groups than the Crosman Vigilante. From a rest I could shoot consistent 3/4" from 8m. Most pellets shot about the same. The Crosman Destroyers, and Crosman Wadcutters shot better with the JSB pellets shooting best.

Now the bad news.
1. They are very expensive. Everything for the two guns ran $1100.
2. One gun had the pin work out for the locking mechanism. This took some time to fix.
3. The guns jammed a lot. The mags need to be bored out, honed, reamed, drilled, filed, sanded or something. Many of them are too tight to reliably let the pellets pass through when fired. This was a very frustrating point for us. We estimate that at least half of the mags are problematic for this. This is rather unacceptable for a quality mag that cost $40 for 3 mags.

Overall thoughts are don't buy this. To do it again with all the issues of one gun requiring tear down to fix and the mags too tight on the pellets....... I don't think I would do it again. Much less trouble with the Crosman.

Well after sending the mags through a machine shop It seems the bores are a little inconsistent and oddly drilled. They have small pin like protrusions to catch the pellets and the bores are tapered in 6 steps. Solution found. Each bore was drilled out on a drill press with a #16 (0.177") drill bit. Now only the smallest of cheap Crosman pellets fit a bit loose. All others are snug enough. The gun now is reliable and does not jam at all. I am now sold on the gun. It just needs a little drilling of the mags to run reliably.

Good to know Moe! The issue with he mags is unacceptable for such an expensive product, they are missing a QC check there for sure. Is it the finish that add some thickness?
The feel of the gun is more realistic I would imagine?

Not the finish. It simply has these pin like protrusions and step down tapers to retain the pellet. After investigating further online I discovered early guns had loose chambers and this was something Umarex did to correct it. In any case A #16 drill bit in a drill press fixed it. The gun has an amazing trigger. Blows away the Crosman in that regard. A friend has a real S&W 686. This feels identical. The real thing is 43oz and the Umarex is 41oz. You wont want to spend all day shooting it as it is a tank to hold up. Almost wish it had 6 shot mags. The 22lr version from S&W use to be 6 shot but now is 10 shot so it is realistic (model 617). Having a blast with this gun now. Just wish Umarex would spend a little time on QA regarding the mags. Bet they are subcontracted to another company.

Accurate pellet revolver choices

the short answer is: none
all sentence is an oxymoron
look for the target pistol if you want "accurate"
PCP FWB one of the options
unless you can sacrifice with a word "accurate" and it will help you to remove the last "0" from the original price tag
