OK, what shoots best for you?
I'm working with two 44 cals myself, the 44-40, at .427, and the 44amg, at .429 (nominal)
I've worked mostly with Hornady bullets, and cast so far. Still looking for the best accuracy.

Taking Hornady jacketted bullets for the 44 Mag and sizing them for the 44-40 has worked surprizingly well.

What works for you?

When revolver shooting I've had good luck with 300 gr Sierras, and although I've just started using them, MT Chambers hard cast 325 gr flat points look promising. Good revolver accuracy is a little different than rifle accuracy, in that it is dependent on the bullet matching the throat diameter rather than the bore diameter.

Yes, a problem with my 44-40 chambered '92 Winchester, is that .430 bullets willnot chamber. So, my bullet selection, is limited. .429's, will chamber if the cartridge case brass is not too thick.
Run them through a Lee .427 die, and they all chamber slick as snot. (They swell (.430's) to about .4285 after coming out of the die.)

.430 in a .44-40

I got my old (1905) 92 carbine to shoot 3in. at 100yds. off the bench with hardcast 250grn. .430. .427 was N.F.G. in that well used barrel. A top new year to all. .45-90

Google NEI Handtools Inc. They make moulds and have a number of .427" designs ranging from 190-250 grs. In the meantime, I'd be surprised if Ben Hanuk couldn't make you up some bullets you'd like for the old girl.
