Yep, the M305/M1A is about the only non rest 308 with the potential to be tuned yo MOA or better accuracy.
M14doctor is working on getting some match barrels to do exactly this. Contact him directly to get the details and/or sign up.
From there, you can play with Rem 7400's, Win and Browning semi's, and what other hunting semi you can think of. But there is little work done on these due largely to how their barrels mate to the action and how the reciprocal system works.
I have heard some shooters getting really nice performance from AR10's but these have to stay on the range.
If you are looking for similar ballistics, I have just started playing with a target mini 14 and got one test load that was spooky accurate at 100yds.
If more groups show similar results, it will certainly change my entire perception of these rifles and be my goto recommendation for a non res semi 'battle' type rifle.
