I believe the MKII is the same basic design as the newer Savages. I've had it sitting around for 16 years and it hasn't been shot much (a few hundred rds). It averages about 1.5"-2.5" at 50yds but I'd like to see if I can tighten those up.

It's got a pressure point under the barrel right in front of the receiver about 1" long; the rest of the barrel is "floating". So what would be the best way to attempt to accurize this rifle? I was thinking pressure at the tip of the forend or even pressure all along the barrel just to start experimenting.

If anyone can offer some advice on where to start I'd appreciate it! :)

Trigger work should also help. If you haven't already, go to w w w.rimfirecentral.com. Lots of info on the savage line.

Find the ammo it likes.
Good scope.
Play with the trigger, or get used to it.

Personally I'd not mess with the barrel...as it is now it will "wobble" the same way each time, but if you start adding things to the stock to add upwards pressure you are now adding in another factor of something that can go wrong...IMHO of course.

The trigger isn't very good. There's no creep as far as I can tell but it's heavy and I'm not used to that.

I thought experimenting with barrel pressure points was the way to go but I guess not.

If your rifle has been sitting somewhere for 16 years, You better check any rust inside the bore before you do anything else. I used to have a Lakefield Mark one, after a trigger job and the rifle turn to alive. You may also want to bedding the gun but It may bring you more work.

Keep in mind these rifles where made at a time when they where expected to work well as is out of the Box...before all this Marketed Obsolescence stuff we have today. :)

Well, before I start tinkering I could try it "as is" with more ammo. It's been pretty consistent though with about 12 different boxes. Of course, those were all hunting and plinking rounds....never gave a second thought to target ammo.
