Hi y'all ,

This goes out to anyone with savage accutrigger experience.

My rifle: savage 116(weather warrior) 2009/10

My problem: when I turn down my bolt to engage it, the trigger sear gets locked against the accutrigger, effectively disabling the trigger.

Upon disassembly, I've noticed that the trigger sear doesn't want to rest in the small trigger notch during cocking ; it just slams against the accutrigger. Now, I've seemed to mitigated the issue by adjusting the trigger spring as far as it will go to increase triger pull weight. This seems to work , but the the trigger is still very sensitive. If i knock on the receiver, the sear will fall. Normal wesr is observed on the sear/ trigger surfaces .

This is less than ideal for a hunting rifle. If the "big one" got away because of this
...

My hunting trip is a month away now.

I am wondering if I should replace either the sear, trigger, trigger return spring, or all of the above due to wear.

Thoughts??

there is a pin that goes through the trigger assembly, make sure it is all the way in, however adjusting the trigger to light will cause the issues you describe.
flush the trigger out with lighter fluid and allow it to dry, it will also clean and lubricate the moving parts

did anything happen to the trigger?
any bent parts?

if you're going on a hunt and rely on that rifle you should order a Timney trigger now.

Something is clearly off.
Unfortunately Savage will ask you to send the whole rifle to QC for warranty and it's a long half-a-year-or-more return time.
Get a Timney (or other good trigger you may fancy) and sell the accutrigger for parts.

pull the red center blade out and see if it functions as it is supposed to, if so then leave the center blade out

Have you tried to adjust your trigger pull ? Not sure on the axis, but my model 12 target action's will lock up tight if I close the bolt's to hard without the safety's on.....I ended up setting them both to just under a lb. Just a thought..

I remember seeing over on the savage shooters forum there are a couple of page's on the axis trigger's....Hope this help's

Cheer's

I'm having a similar problem with my Model 10 BA. Cycling the bolt too fast locks the trigger up solid. I haven't taken it apart to look at it yet (will do tonight) but wanted to know if you were able to fix the issue?

I've posted this before but Savage introduced a negative sear angle with the accutrigger. What this means is the two pieces of metal that catch are not going to hold by themselves. In all logical engineering I can fathom, this angle should be positive or lock against each other not slip. Only the spring tension keeps them from slipping apart. There is no mechanical lock you release [like a normal trigger] with the accutrigger, you just lower friction on the sear by squeezing the trigger. As soon as you lower the friction enough it takes off, you are actually not moving it out of the way.

Increase spring tension or have someone competent change the sear engagement. Changing the firing pin spring tension [such as a "bolt lift kit"] greatly effects accutrigger reliability.

DO NOT remove the accu-release

One of the other issues isn't just that the trigger locks up, but pulling the trigger will cause an audible *click* and the trigger will kick forward slightly into your finger. It's very bizzare.

Edit: I took the gun apart and had a look at the trigger, should have just done it before posting. The sear on the trigger is worn, rounded. Cycling the gun too fast does not allow the the metal tab to catch on the trigger sear. Increased spring pressure may help. Or i may need a new trigger.

Edit #2: Upon more research, turns out its an inherant problem with the Accutrigger hen set very low. Cranked it up a bit and seems to have helped. Looking into new triggers now.

If it's a bottom bolt release then the rear action bolt is to tight. Back it off a bit, or you may have to put a little bedding in to increase clearance. The bolt release button assembly gets pinched against the trigger. Top release savages are really good but the new ones have some issues that I just can't be bothered with anymore. This being one of them.

Adjust your trigger back to the heavy side. I have seen at times if one turns the trigger too light (past that point where resistance is felt) the triggers begin to lock up. It's usually random. Many people dial their triggers low but forget that the accutrigger on axis etc. usually only goes down to 2.5-2.7 pounds. When setting it down don't go past that point where resistance is felt. Dial it up and give the bolt a couple tries. Also do as stated above with the pins and cleaning. Safety is your concern now as reliability is just no there right now. The spring may be buggered now from being force too low (or something else). A new spring is a cheap fix. Polish the sear and make sire it is flat. Hope this helps. The accutriiger is a good trigger but their lifespan is questionable.
