I have a almost brand new Savage model 111 LH in .270 Win. cal.
I bought it 2 years ago and have fired about 50 rounds thru it sighting in and whatnot at the range.
At the range it's always worked perfectly.
While hunting this past deer season, I had a chance on 2 does at around 150 yds or so.
I brought the rifle up, flicked off the safety, lined up the cross hairs, and pulled the trigger.
Absolutely nothing happened! No boom, no "click" nothing.
So I backed off all pressure from the trigger again and,,pulled trigger again, still nothing.
So I started thinking maybe the safety is still on or the gun wasn't cocked.
At this point I cycled another round into the chamber, double checked that the safety was off and squeezed the trigger again. Still nothing, but I think the rifle "clicked" this time.
It was unseasonably warm so a frozen bolt couldn't have been the problem. (think tee shirt weather)
At the gravel pit where we have lunch, the rifle fired fine, the next day.
Anyone else having problem's with their accutrigger and failure to fire?
This has me somewhat baffled as well as pissed off as I won't carry a rifle hunting that I don't trust is going to fire when I want it too.
Thanks for any and all input.
Eric

~ Possibly some debris, then dislodged during transport.
~ It is a 3-position safety, maybe did not move it far enough.
~ Bolt not fully closed.

The only accutrigger I have is a .22lr. I know that if the exterior trigger portion is pulled without depressing the accutrigger inner blade, then the rifle will not fire. But when you cycled another round, that should have fixed that issue.

And then because it worked fine the next day, then I can't see it being debris or anything.

I don't know what it could be, but as a guess, was it a bit of buck fever that caused you to somehow pull the trigger without depressing the inner blade both times?

+1 on checking the trigger, as Huntin' Gun said. Try this:

Test #1
- Empty chamber, no mag, no ammo nearby
- Close the bolt
- Click the safety on and off
- See if it fires

Test #2
- Close the bolt
- Click Safety on and off
- Pull ONLY the outer black trigger. You should feel a click. The sear should move off the trigger, and land on the (unheld) AccuRelease safety, which has prevented the firing. (How much pull did that take?) The rifle should be disabled, until you cycle the bolt, so:
- Open and close the bolt, then
- Flick the safety on and off
- Pull the trigger

Lots of steps there, but the idea is to see if the trigger may be set so light that perhaps when you closed the bolt, something bumped the main trigger, causing the AccuRelease safety to kick in, killing the rifle until you cycled the bolt.

My Savage 25 can be tuned down to a very light weight (which is where I keep it :)), but once I close the bolt, I put the manual safety on right away - I have no fear of the rifle discharging without a trigger pull (AccuRelease), but the manual safety keeps the sear on the main trigger.

Probably didn't help you, but hopefully have you a couple ideas.

On an empty chamber, see if you can get the rifle to duplicate the "click" incident. Check each time you open and close the bolt if the rifle is actually cocked. I have seen Savage rifles do this if the trigger has been adjusted, the cocking piece just follows the bolt closed, never cocking the firing pin.
Double check to see if your safety lever is still in place. It is a small bar on the left side of the action that connects the safety button to the trigger. You will have to take the action out of the stock to see.

* update* I disassembled the rifle and I was able to duplicate the problem.
The "accurelease" is mounted on the same pivot pin as the trigger is.
The slot for the trigger pin to go thru on the accurelease is slotted and alot bigger than the pin that holds it in place is.
This allows the accurelease to slide up and down quite a distance.
On the side of the accurelease there is a little "tab" that sticks out to the right side.
This little "tab" has a mating "slot" or hole in the trigger that it is supposed to pass thru when pulling the accurelease and trigger.
Sometimes when pulling the trigger, the accurelease is sliding upwards because of the mounting hole being oversized. This results in the little "tab" not lining up with it's mating "slot or hole in the trigger.
This is causing the accurelease to get stuck on the face of the trigger, which causes you to pull the trigger with the accurelease still blocking the sear, resulting in a failure to fire condition.
The tab needs to be removed from the side ,or the tolerance of the accurelease on the trigger pin needs to be tightened up I figure.
Sorry if this is clear as mud, just google a pic. of the accutrigger system and you will get a good idea what I'm talking about.
Hope this is helpfull to someone.

edit: forgot to add, thank's everyone for the replies.
Lots of thought provoking ideas, much appreciated.

The trigger is set so light on my Savage 10BA that the built-in safety feature will trip the trigger blade when closing the bolt too aggressively. It is the sear block activating, because the trigger is factory adjusted on the lowest (lightest) setting. It has a nice light, crisp trigger pull, and I have yet to adjust the trigger. I just ensure I close the bolt more delicately. Your problem sounds the same. Easy fix.
