Hey eveyone was curious A friend of mine says the savage accutrigger in his opinion is one of the greatest innovations regarding precision shooting however he wont let me try the rifle what say you guys what do you think

I was never really a fan of the accutrigger, more favoured a clean breaking decent trigger with non-existent creep. Just my 2 cents, hard to explain why.

A huge innovation for Savage, it is a great trigger, but not the end all be all.

For precision use, not really. A completely adjustable trigger with a light pull and no creep is much better for fine precision work on targets. For allowing a decent light pull weight trigger safely on a hunting rifle, yes it was a good step forward.

Oh yeah, I agree with the above comments about your "buddy".

The one on my 308 is supposed to adjust down to 1.5 lbs but I really doubt it is that light.

The one on my 223 claims to go down to 6 oz. I haven't messed with it from the factory setting but it is damn light. LRPV model.

I also have the LRPV. The trigger breaks very cleanly and can be set to 6 ounces....very light. I personally didn't like the "accu" part of the trigger so I removed it. Now in doing this, I had to set the trigger at 12 ounces so the rifle would safely pass all bump tests, but now I have a very nice, light clean breaking trigger that feels like all my other triggers on all my other guns.

Its not as nice as my Jewel.....but what is?

Mine is quite good, and I am happy with it as is, but i have used better ... I did a trigger job on my neighbors 700BDL 25-06, that is quite possibly the finest trigger job ever known to man. I am not trying to brag about it and quite frankly I am not sure I could do it again on another rifle, it was my first one and I just followed instructions I found on the net.

It is around 1.5 lbs absolutely no creep and breaks like glass. It also has almost no perceivable travel, I was quite worried about it at first (possible unwanted discharge) but after 40-50 rounds and hundreds of testing sessions to try and make it fail (playing with safety, slamming bolt, jarring rifle etc.) I cannot make it fire without pulling trigger, and my buddy loves it and asked me not to change it.

Awe com'on guys, its not a $300 Jewell trigger or a $150 Timney trigger but its loads better than most off the shelf sporting rifle triggers. I've got mine set to 2.25 lbs on my Savage 12 and I've pretty much adjusted out the creep and overtravel. I'm pretty much satisfied altho I may buy a 1.5 lb spring from Sharp Shooters Supply ($5 + $2 shipping).

Before the Accutrigger the triggers on on most factory rifles were getting worse and worse to satisfy the lawyers. Savage spurred all the other makers to take another look at trigger design and we are all benefiting as a result.

ddelorme68, the accutrigger is the answer Savage came up with to satisfy the AVERAGE rifle owner's need for a better trigger. Lets face it, everybody wants a decent trigger and a huge number of people are using a neglected rifle that has a terrible trigger. Give them an Accutrigger and they are super happy, they do not care how it works. The Accutrigger is a huge success in this regard, and they function fine.

On the other hand, the gunnutz here, and on other forums, do care. What Savage did was install the "Accu-release" that will catch an unwanted sear release. They also made the sear angles negative which is unsafe. Negative sear angles are how some people achieve low trigger pull weights, unknowingly making the rifle unsafe. The machining tolerances are good for hunting or varmint rifles, not competition rifles. If you want low pull weight you will need to buy a 3 lever trigger which has an intermediate lever, the Accutrigger has only two, the sear and the trigger. Simple mechanics, it takes 3 levers to make a good light trigger.

The key to this trigger is not how good it is but that the safety device lets them make it lighter and crisper than other cheap rifles and still avoid the potential litigation that may go with it if someone has an accidental discharge (and I don't mean pregnancy). I made my first Bisley team with a CIL 950T (110) and it is still a fine trigger after it had a bit of work years ago. It did not have the safety device but was probably easier to tune if you wanted to. Anyway, the new one still can be tuned up although as far as I know there is no creep adjustment on the accutrigger as it comes.
