If you are talking about a real deal Colt .22 conversion unit you want to find a slide stop marked with a "2" on the inside flat. That is the correct slide stop for the Colt .22 conversion unit. Usually, the standard slide stops will work okay, that is function as a slide stop should. However, for some reason a standard slide stop will start to burr the relief cut in the slide that the slide stop locks into when the magazine is empty. As far as recoil spring plugs go, any standard one should work fine.
Good luck finding Colt factory .22 conversion unit mags, though. While not particularly scarce they will usually run you $75 - $100 ea. when/if you can find them.

I ordered my spare mags for my Colt 22 top end from Brownell's , they were around $54 usd , they work well with the proper slide stop. the "45's" slide seems to be too long and pushes the mag to the right side of the frame and will lock up the gun by engaging the take down notch in the slide as it cycles. I believe the differences in slide stops is the ability to lock the slide back after the last shot. If that isn't important to you a .45 slide stop if it fits the barrel, could probably be modified to not interfer with the .22 mag but still lock the barrel in place.

However, given the relative scarcity and value of real Colt .22 Conversion Units I would try to get a #2 Colt slide stop. A modified slide stop that mars the slide in any way is going to eventually be unsightly and detract from the value of an item that is only going to increase in value as time goes by.
