Ace side folder options... VZ58

Even though Ace doesn't ship outside of the US, I thought I'd ask here anyhow, since this seems to be the place place for VZ related tech.

I recently picked up a Czechpoint VZ-58, and I've been looking at putting an AR stock adapter on it, and running a Magpul CTR. In my research, I ran across Ace stocks, and starting thinking about a side folder. One thing that I'm hestitant about, is the possible lack of rigidity in a folder. I want something that will give me the versatility of a folder, without moving away from the solid feel of a fixed stock.

What's the skinny on Ace stocks? I want to run one with a Stormwerkz adapter. Although I've seen VZ rifles with an Ace skeleton stock, like this one belonging to "Sprint"...

When they are folded, the stock seems to crowd the side of the receiver. It would likely have to be a left side folder, to keep it away from blocking the safety, anyhow.

After looking at the different options Ace has available, I'm seriosly considering one of these two stocks. They have the main upper stock tube, but without the smaller support tube...

I'm thinking it'll make for a simpler, less obstructed folded stock.

Any thoughts? Lay it on me!

I never liked that the AKFX stock has a plastic top tube like the one in the picture. However, it is very popular and you see it mounted on all kinds of different platforms. I have never heard of anyone breaking one. The Socom that you have pictured has a disclaimer that it should not be used with a caliber larger than 7.62x39. There are pictures floating around on the net of guys that have damaged them. One was on a DSA FAL. At the same time there are plenty of DSA vids that show them being used in full-auto fire. The Ultra lite ACE the most basic of the three, is reported to be strong, and I have thought about that option myself.

The upper tube is machined out of Delrin, which is extremely durable. Looks like Ace builds with quality, so I really don't see them using an alternative to metal tubing, if it didn't have some alternate benefit. Like you said, you don't see them breaking.

I spoke with Tim at Ace, and he said that both stocks are very rigid, and can take abuse... but if you were going to be kicking in doors with it, jumping out of hellicopters, moving cars, etc... if anything the AKFX stock would be the stronger of the two. He said that the Ultra Lite was very strong, and I really like its minimalistic design.

I'm still trying to find better pictures of it than Ace has on their site. Ace's wesite is really basic.:(

Ace

I have this exact setup on my VZ.
The stormwerks side folder is rock solid.
The ACE stock is rock solid.
I'm surprised that someone with a Fabrication shop in Canada isn't cranking out a knock off of the ace stock by the hundreds.
The side folder adapter can be flipped to fold on either side.
I have mine folding on the right side of the receiver.

There is a threaded hole on the side fold adapter that allows for a standard sling swivel so you can employ a single point sling.

Using the push-pull technique and a single point sling is perfect for vehicle training.

That's a fact.

I plan on copying Sprint's design to the letter. Hands down the best configuration I've seen for one of these carbines.

Now if I can only find a f*ckin' Ace stock....

Its a whole pile of fun to shoot. My brother came up from Houston. After firing the Vz, he's pretty certain he prefers it to his Arsenal Inc SGL21 AK

I'm pretty happy with this rifle as built. Only things really nagging at me it the notion of getting off my ass and paying a welder friend to fabricate and spot weld an ambi sling mount to the rear trunion mount ala Magpul.

Like this...

But underneath the mount rather than behind it.

All my ACE AKFX stocks have aluminum top tubes covered with a plastic overtube. In fact I just cut a 9.5" version down to 7.5".

I think if your running irons you may have an issue with the angle of the flat stocks and proper check-weld. Mounted optics probably won't be an issue.
Looks like folded on the left side would cause problems releasing the mag....what do I know.

Nope. Works very well.

Lower 1/3 cowitness. If you can use the aimpoint comfortably, you can use the irons comfortably. Also, the left side fold works well with all controls except ambi safety - which is fine because, well, its ambi.

Honestly, the only reason I even have the folder is to reduce size when transporting. Stock folded is useless as t**s on a bull for actual use.

Nope on both your points. I am using the stormwerkz folder and AR adapter and have no issues with either using irons or the mag release in either position.

That's all I want it for, to have a short, stowable rifle. I would shy away from the side folder if there's a notable compromise in strenth, but from what I'm hearing, it doesn't sound like it...

Some of you have stated that a Stormwerkz folding mechanism is very solid... any reason you chose it over the Ace folder? One thing I like about the Ace folder is that the part which mounts to the receiver adapter has elongated holes, giving some adjustment in elevation. Any thoughts?

Homeland Defense and Police Supply here in the U.S. makes a knock off of the AKFX. Maybe they ship to Canada. HDPSdotorg

Hmmmm.....this sounds promising. I'll have to look into getting a similar stock for my CSA VZ58.

Stormwerkz have the elongated holes too. I went with them because so many here had nothing but good to say about it. You can also switch which side it folds too if you like.

Here is the stormwerkz one:
