I am trying to make a m16a4 clone. I ordered a colt ar15a4 rifle and got the KAC RAS m5. Now I need the optic.

What is the difference bewteen the 4x acog and the 4x led acog?

Is the LED better than the Regular Acogs Tritium.

Is there a shelf life with the tritium acog, with the LED you can just change the battery.

How does this optic compare to a eotech or aimpoint, is it worth the extra $$$

The LED one is the 'new' version - which I think is not as good as the original. The Fiber Optics on the normal model are awesome. Why go LED/battery if you don't have to? No purpose in my opinion. Tritium on the ACOG is rated for 12 years- but are you REALLY shooting in the dark? Unlikely.

If you want it to look like a 'REAL' A4 - the Acog you want is a TA31RCO... same as a 'standard' TA31, but with horizonal 'hash' marks for ranging.

In my humble opinion - the ACOG's USED to be the best game in town, but there are better options these days. 1-4 variable, or one of the TA33 acogs (they are pretty niche though) are a better choice IMHO.

So I narrowed it down to either the TA33 or TA11.

Anyone have any experience of either of them. Would these be ok for close range stuff also, or just past 100m?

I love my TA33.. It`s much lighter and smaller than other 3 or 4x acogs - and it has VERY good eye relief. In fact, I run it so far forward that it almost acts like a red dot... the actual housing kinda `disappears` from view and it just looks like a magnified circle with chevron floating in the middle.

Hard to explain - but it works very well. Very small FOV compared to other Acogs, but it`s good close up as well. Google `Bindon Aiming Concept`and you`ll see why Acogs can be used at short range with both eyes open.

I too am making a m16a4 clone. I have a ta31 and the tritium is definitely fading after 6 years of using it. I plan on putting a killflash and flip caps on it to to copy the rco a4 acog although the reticle and bdc will be slightly off. I am getting the new led model to place on my carbine and have been impressed with the ones I held at a shop. In my opinion led is the new way to go. Good luck sending a tritium optic over the border for repair! I am jealous you found a m5 ras

I picked the TA11 because it was basically middle-of-the-road between the 31 and 33 in both FOV and eye relief, at the cost of being the largest and heaviest of the three. If you find eye relief on the 31 is a little short, and the FOV on the 33 is a little small, the 11 may be the compromise for you. It just depends on your intended use.
