Acog question

I've never owned an acog before, but am thinking of buying a used one. However, many of the ads I see refer to cracking and bubbles in the fibre optic tube. What's the deal with that? Should I steer clear of such units?
 
If you get one that is to old the Tritium gets dull. If its not one that came in to Canada with papers, Trijicon probably wont replace the elements in it.

:agree: & also if you have certain type's that were never ment for comerical use.
 
Why is it that everyone isn't using fiber optic illumination? That, and a battery/led or tritium should do it for everything. Why is it so exclusive? I love the idea, but for a plinker, the cost of what's currently available is steep. If my life depended on it, sure, spend the money, but the idea is cheap to reproduce, why no copies?

Sorry for the hijack, but I've been holding that in for a while...:redface:
 
The cracks in the tube are normal, and does not impact the performance at ALL. I've owned a bunch of ACOGs... they all crack with age/use. Bubbles are also present in about 1/2 of them I've owned, and again, ZERO impact on use.

It's just the acrylic (I'm guessing) substance they use to hold the fibre optic tube in place. The actual fibre isn't affected by the cracks in the surrounding material.

It's probably the least of my concerns when buying an ACOG. BUY ONE!!!!
 
I'm with canucklehead on that one.... the cracks in the acrylic fiber optic band! The Trijicon people mentioned that fact somewhere in their website and responded that these cracks are normal and nothing in terms of performance is compromised.

I love my TA31F !... Well, except that it may be TOO Bright in the sunshine. A piece of black electrician's tape will solve that situation of the fuzzy chevron under bright daylight. :D
