I was thinking of buying an Acog sight and mounting it on my CZ 858. The Acog evidently has a short eye relief so mounting it on the upper handguard would probably not work.

I was wondering is anyone has used an Acog on an 858 and how best to mount it.

I've run my acog on a VZ in the same way. In fact it was one of the optics we used when trialing this setup for NEA in their design phase.

Ummm...
You know that the ACOG is either designed for the 223 or the 308 round and was never ment for this type of round or rifle for that matter right!?!
Also you are going to put this optic on this rifle seems a little wierd cuz there are many other optic's that would be better suited for this firearm with out the expensive price tag.
Now if you are just pissing in the wind then ya it would work and yardie's answer is the only viable way of doing it.

My long term goal is to get the Acog on an M4 however I can't afford an M4 at this time and may be able to get the Acog at a really good price.

Im curious as to what is the problem of the use of this scope on this rifle, I have heard this before and havent understood.
If there is a central aiming point and the rifle is zeroed to this point at say 100m or what ever, I understand the range hashes wont be of use but whats the problem past cost?

There are non-calibrated acogs...

Yes there are but there are also other scope's that would be better suited for this than an acog at half the price.

Don't know who's rifle it is but this scope/mount set-up does look like it's worth the $$$.
;)

I keep looking at pics of the NEA cantilever mount and I can't decided if it would allow enough eye relief with something like a leupold.

Has anyone had any issues with brass hitting the scope when using the cantilever mount...?

I would like to run a setup like this but I'm concerned about the ACOG taking a beating without a shell deflector.

I have not taken this particular rifle to the range in this configuration, but if I manually cycle rounds through it, it seems to bounce them off of the front of the ACOG, so I don't want to try it just to find that they really do hit the lens at high speed :)

The eye relief is great by the way.

Doesn't NEA have a shell deflector out soon? Attaches to the rear sight.

Yes, they do, however, it's coming out at the end of this year (according to their website) and although I'm sure it will work great for a lot of folks, I'm not looking to add a shell deflector if I can help it as it's just one more piece of kit that I'd prefer not to have on my carbine.

So basically my question is: If you are using the cantilever mount with no shell deflector, do the ejected casings beat up the optic?

I tried the CSA scope mount with shell deflector but it puts the ACOG up way too high, there is no cheek weld at all, even with a Stormwerx AR stock adapter which places the stock slightly higher than the factory fixed sock (Factory stock shown below).

When we tested the NEA Cantilever mount, one of the optics we used was a ACOG. Had no issues; however, we mounted a little farther back than you have there.

That was our test rifle. That is indeed an excellent all around optic, but they're rarer than hens teeth.

Unfortunately this ACOG is a TA-11 which has a 3.5" eye relief as opposed to the TA-30 or 31 that only has 2"

3.5" works great for most carbines but with the cantilever mount it needs to be a fair amount further forward, plus I prefer to shoot with a fully collapsed stock which doesn't help if you want to pull the scope back more.

I may need a new plan....
