I was hoping there might be some folks around here with some insight on an ACOG issue I've run into. I was trying to get on paper at 25m after throwing my old TA31 on a new rifle and was having to dial up a considerable amount (perhaps related to flipping the factory base around so the thumbwheels were on the other side). When making a further adjustment up, the dial for the elevation turret fell completely out of the optic.
Google was not much help, a lot of ar15. com results pertaining to tapping acogs to get prism to adjust with the turrets, but nothing of help to me. The only possible gem of info was somebody had posted an excerpt from the acog user manual that stated in all caps something to the effect of "DO NOT ADJUST TURRETS TO EXTREME ENDS OF RANGE" without elaborating on the consequences of doing so. Assuming I adjusted to the extreme "up" direction, is it normal for an acog turret to thread right out, or should it stop turning when adjusted too far? Is this something that requires professional repair, or can I pop it back in?
I know that, at a minimum, I'll need to flip that base back around the way it was, or go to an aftermarket base once this turret is back in action
