ACOGs for Sale

What do most Service Rifle guys use for optics and how is the ACOG regarded in those circles? Do you see any shortcomings in these scopes for the Service Rifle game?
I've got an ACOG up for sale. It's the best magnified optic I've ever used, but I simply can't afford it, an Aimpoint and an EOTech. Once I free up some funds, pay off my student loan, I'm getting another one (the TA31F being my favorite model).

JOOC, what kind of shooting do you use your different sighting systems (ACOG, EoTech, Aimpoint) for? Which of the setups is your favourite and performs best? Which is the best all round optic?
I've got a TA31RCO with chevron reticle for the Service Rifle game. I did use my wife's carbine last Sep Service Rifle match in Connaught with super results. She prefers the "donut of death" and she shot very well with the donut at the last Carbine match in Oct at Milcun Range.
There is no external windage knob unlike the windage adjustment on the front of the ELCAN mount. So I just guesstimate the wind and hold over.
For many years I used different types of Leupolds with Duplex and Mildot reticles all with great results. Then I thought it's time to learn what all the combat oriented optics are about, so I switched to the ACOG's. Much lighter, smaller, more compact... less weight to haul around during the rundowns (remember, I'm on my 2nd hip replacement for my right side).
Anyways, the ACOG was designed for combat use and it's got a fabulous reputation in Iraq and A'stan among the US troops who are lucky to have them issued (USMC issues the TA31RCO M4 and TA31 RCO A4).

Hungry here: The adjustments are all done internally, just like your riflescopes on hunting bangsticks. Then the coin adjusting slots are covered up with little plastic covers. Nah, it's not an issue judging by their winning scores which put ME to shame...

I do have to admit, the one major deciding factor in switching from Leupold MR/T or LR/T scopes with M1 tactical knobs was having my ass royally kicked by Greentips at other Service Rifle matches.
No joking, despite his great looking outfits and unique bangsticks, he kicks my Leupold ass all over the firing mound with his ACOG's. For some reason, it's not only Greentips with his ACOG's that boot my butt, but other ACOG shooters with even shorter barrels than my 20" Armalite barrel trash my scores. I am humbled !
So instead of competing against them, I joined the trend to the 4X ACOG. Next season.... look out!!

The fact that you are keeping one is a statement about your opinion of the functionality and quality of the unit. What is your main reason for using/owning an ACOG? Primarily Service Rifle or ... ?

KISS indeed, No body has time to adjust sights for distance let a lone windage up to 300m. It ain't done in the stress of combat and I rarely saw it in training, when I did by the time a troopie screws with his sights he has lost his situational awareness and bearings. I always taught to aim off for wind or distance up to 300m and leave the sights the #### alone.

Out of all the military-grade optics I've shot (this includes the Elcan with 3rd Gen mount) I think the ACOG is the most universal. It's deadly accurate out to 600 m and pretty fast for CQB-type engagments under 100 m (the chevron is a little harder to pick up though..). Plus it's built like a tank and self-luminous (no batteries). My only gripe would be the lousy eye relief but it is a magnified scope after all.
The CQB reflex sights (red dots) are a matter of personal preference. They work very well for what they were designed to do. I personally favour the 4 MOA Aimpoint, the EOTech's 65 MOA ring is kinda fuzzy and distracting for me. The Aimpoint is a rugged, unmagnified tube that's powered by commercially available batteries. It's designed to be used with both eyes open for quick target acquisition, has unlimited eye-relief (meaning you can mount it as far forward or close to your eyes as desired) and the sight seems to project a small red dot over your target without focusing on the reticle itself, allowing the operator to maintain a high degree of situational awareness.
If you're looking for a general range sight the Spectre DR might interest you. Interesting concept.
