Hello ladies and gents.

I'm stripping a 18.5" barrel and the gas block pins are really giving me a hard time to take out.

Is there some voodoo magic to take them out? I know its suppose to go one way only but they are not moving at all....

Thanks

These stubborn pins really require you to have it clamped onto a solid vice in order for it to even move. Having only a wood block behind it, holding the barrel with your hand doesn't really work.

All you need is to land a few good strikes for it to move.

Sounds like you need to get yourself a bigger hammer :stirthepot2:

They're taper pinned, so they only come out in one direction.

Make sure you're hitting the SMALL END so it comes out the larger side.

Also try hitting it with few heavy strikes rather than smaller hits, as you can peen/mushroom the taper pins and make them impossible to take out without grinding or drilling them.

Get a nice piece of wood or something to support the gas block and give them a good solid hit and they should start to come out. Once you have them started they'll come out nice and easy.
