ACR is apparently coming to Canada

Oops! I think you are lost;
Firearms Politics Forums

I come to the black rifle forum to relax, it's a little hard with all these soap-boxes clutterin' the place up...

No offense intended :)

Sorry sir, but YOU just publicly admitted to thinking there isn't a fight every day. If you don't believe the next socialist government won't take away semi-autos and handguns, you are just fooling yourself. YOU are the very reason I cannot own full-auto firearms; short-barrel handguns; and normal-capacity magazines. You did not stand up for me back when it was time, and now, many firearms are pipe-dreams for me.

You oughta be ashame'd of yourself...

well the rep said it was going to be non restricted but I read the stats and it's iffy and he also said it would come out in late 2010. He also mentioned a batch of Canadian made guns such as a AI (Accuracy international) look alike and a couple others along with their Canadian catalog. As for whats included I think it comes with a pair of pic rail attached standard sights, and a (1) mag. I think it was either in tan or black, don't really know if that would very the price much but.....

If it's N/R and at least as good as a mid level AR, it will sell.

It's a new "military" rifle... I wouldn't bet on it being deemed non restricted.
Hell... I bet any "new" semi auto designs that come out will ever get into this country as non restricted.

It doesn't matter if it's a 'military' rifle. If it's not deemed a 'variant' of an existing restricted/prohibited rifle, the only thing that determines it's classification is the action (semi) and barrel length (18.5"+) combination.

That being said, you are correct in that they could simply not allow importation.

This information sounds suspect. Who was it that you spoke to?

"Deeming" only happens when the regulations did not specifically determine the conditions for the application of a specific set of rules - so it "deems" the subject to be a surrogate of another subject to suck it down the same set of rules.

You statement is purely emotional and is not supported by any firearms laws and regulations.

No, it shouldn't be.

I've completely stopped looking at the politics-laden parts of the board because they annoy me with the sheer amount of misinformation, ignorance, slandering, paranoia, and narrow-mindedness I would hope did not come from the minds of Canadians. The Firearms and Optics part of the board is interesting, can be entertaining, and a very good resource, and it would be a shame if it ended poisoned by the stink of political partisanship.

If people want to do gun politics, they'll go to that part of the forum.

amen to that, I'm always here but never in that part of the forum...

I think if it comes in restricted due to barrel lenght (likely be the case) I would love to get one in 6.8 have it rebarreled at 18.5+ and go deerhunthing...

If they make one with a long enough barrel I might buy one. My thinking on military-style semi-autos goes like this:

1) Is it non-restricted? (I.e. can I use it where I want to.)
2) Does it use AR-15 mags? (I.e. can I have ten rounds in the mag.)
3) Have ATF Tech Branch heard of it? (I.e. can I get a Form 6NIA to take it into the US.)

Not many rifles have "yes" to all of those questions. Armalite AR-180B, FN FS2000, Robinson Arms XCR, FN SCAR (if the barrel is long enough).

I think it's going to take something which is "yes" to all those questions for me to think about buying it instead of using an AR-15 or a PE90.

Assuming that Bushmaster is even open and considering making a special 18.5+" Canadian version, when will they actually get around to doing it? They're trying to bail themselves out from a PR nightmare right now with shooting enthusiasts. Surely they'll concentrate on fulfilling the demand for 1/7 and ~10" barrels before they even bother devoting resources for the Canadian market.

Well I'm a new age kinda guy.. In touch with my emotions.:)

The way I see it when in doubt, regardless of out firearms laws and regulations whoever's in the position to make a determination will err on the side of caution and say.. "restricted".

Even if they're wrong it'll be up to others to initiate a protest and well... We know how that usually ends up.

As far as the RCMP/CFC is concerned letting any new gun into Canada is bad. If they can they'll do whatever it takes to stop imports. Even if it means making "mistakes" ;)

Unless they have a precision/Varmint version in the work - which is actually logical.

Since the thing is as fat and heavy as Wendy Cukier, it may be the way to go.

The XCR will be the closest thing I think anybody will get to a REPR in Canada... seriously check out the reaper, it is awesome. But still any NR tactical rifle is a plus

All the variants have barrel lengths less than 18.5"... so... you take a guess.

Since Herron Arms makes non-restricted length (18.7in) barrels for the FS2000, so maybe they are able to make appropriate barrels for the ACR as well(the modularity of the ACR is a big plus so we can switch the barrel ourselves).
