So , I see a lot of cool stuff while hunting certain areas and over the years some of my "stories" have come across as unbelievable by some.
I'd like to start video documenting some of my adventures as I spend more time than the average person in the back country and I want to catch some of this stuff on video. Also thought about starting a hunting and fishing youtube channel , something I have been putting a lot of thought into this past year.
So I am curious if other CGN'ers are using action cameras like GoPro and the like and wondering what is working for you and what did not.
I am woefully undereducated when it comes to the cameras themselves, I'm thinking a head mounted camera would be the best choice but not sure.
Comments? Thoughts?
please discuss....

I have been filming with a GoPro the last year, more or.less happy with it, but have some random thoughts for ya.

Your phone shoots better footage, the plus to an action camera is durability, mounting options, and portability. Footage from my GoPro is good, but looks like it is shot from a GoPro.

The head mount is good for things like mountain biking or skiing, but if you want to focus in on specific things it is a bit of a crap shoot as you can't see the screen.

The GoPro 12 I have has been reliable and easy to use, but sucks for hunting as low light performance is bad. The DJI models are apparently much better for this.

Consider rigging it on an ARCA or other quick release system. You are likely going to want to mount on a tripod to film yourself walking towards and away from camera. This is a pain in the butt and though the GoPro mountimg system is bomber for action sports, it is a pain to undo and redo 20 times in a day trip.

Best luck I have had hunting was actually mounting it to my rifle on a pic rail. I can send a picture if this interests you. This allows me to use the rifle as a selfie stick and film myself talking or flip it around and film walking forward and actually see on the screen what I am filming... you can also tilt it to catch the barrel and film a shot, which is kind of cool. Weight is negligable... looks pretty dorky though, lol.

If not hunting, mounting it on a small octopus style tripod that you can use as a handle, selfie stick, and tripod works well. I cannot stress enough what a pain it is to remount in different configurations so a solution that gets you multiple shot possibilities is awesome. I would store it in a pouch mounted to my pack hip belt.

Enjoy!

I have been using a Insta 360 Ace Pro for a little over a year now, really happy with it so far. Check out Labrador Backcountry on Youtube for some of my videos. the 2X zoom feature is nice.

hey thanx for the reply. I'll check out your channel on youtube ;)

I mounted mine to the side of my scope using a small rail adapter, works great for recording without messing with my aim or balance. Battery lasts longer in cooler weather if pre-warmed.
