I am just getting my gear sorted out for Action Rifle League and I was wondering what holster people use for the CZ Sp01? I was also thinking I would like to try IPSC or IDPA some day and is there one holster that works well for every type of competition or will I need different ones for each? Any tips would be appreciated.

Bladetech, Comp Tac, are two Kydex holsters that come to mind. IDPA doesn't allow dropped and offset holsters for men while IPSC does. There isn;t much difference in draw times if at all so buy a holster that fits bot both sports and works for Alberta Rifle as well. A regular belt holster should work in all three.

Take Care

Thanks for the advice. I will look up the Bladetech and Comp Tac. I am not sure what an offset holster is but I saw the BLACKHAWK CQC Serpa Holster and it says you can mount it off a belt or with an optional tactical leg strap. Would you be allowed to use that for all three types of competitions?

Action Rifle is run watcha brung, the other games have holster guidelines. To try all three with the same gear, belt mounted kydex is the way to start. You can always add(or make) the drop/offset later. I use a Soley Canadian(with a removable drop) for everything, including 3gun.
If you want to try a leg holster you can borrow my generic nylon one(fits my Shadow great) at the next Action Rifle match; sucks today's match got cancelled for snow.

I found that for the games we play, strapping my holster to a moving part of my body(thigh) when I'm not wearing the chest rig or armour that this style of holster was designed to work around was unnecessary; your milage may vary, of course, depending on your setup.

Some(many?) people frown on Serpas, there is a greater potential to touch the trigger on the draw based on the release mechanism; I(also many?) don't care for them because grit could get stuck in the release, preventing drawing at all:).

Good to know. Do you use the IWB or Level Soley holster? I was also trying to figure out a chest rig for mag storage by watching some vidoes. You don't wear one? You can store 5 AR and 2 pistol mags on a belt?

If a belt set-up is what you want you could look at the blade tech double AR mag pouch on a tech loc I think mine was about $60, also even though I use a different holster then mentioned for my cz (ghost) based on what a lot of guys around here use id probably say get a blade tech holster as well, it can be mounted on the drop for ipsc, rifle, etc or directly to the tech loc for idpa.

Do not use IWB for any Action Rifle! IIRC, only IDPA allows IWB and only from strong side.
I use the SolCan Concealment holster on my battle belt anchored with 2" TekLok. Most people will use their Competition design which sticks out a bit more. Perfect if you're running a chest rig and plate.
You can store 3 AR mags and 2 pistol mags on your support side easily. One more spare in a belt carrier on your strong side forward of your pistol holster and insert the 5th mag on the load and make ready command. That makes 5. If you're using LAR or AA mags, that is way more than needed in one stage.

Oh, and another pass on the Serpa! I used to use one for years. i've never had issues but a lot of people won't want to stand around you for some reason! :)

Listen to smellypete. He's done this a few times!

Level 1 holster is the norm, I've also got a Soley thumb drive that I' m considering for 3gun(more movement); in Action Rifle I try to keep one hand on my holstered pistol when advancing, just in case.

For carrying stuff in Action Rifle and Tac Rifle I use a "Battle" belt with HSGI Tacos, A double rifle pouch and two rifle/pistol mag pouches; carrying four rifle mags(yay mag laws *spit*) and two pistol for a total of 5 and 3. Extra rifle mags in cargo pockets or my dump pouch, stage dependant. I like that the Tacos are multipurpose, so I can play with my 858 or different pistols.
My suggestion to you(since you asked:p), for a multi-use belt system would be investing in a good stiff 1 3/4" width belt (Wilderness 5 stitch) ((max width for IDPA)), and mag pouches of your choice; this could be used in all games. I have the battle belt so I don't have to thread junk onto my belt every time, but it's not that big an inconvenience. Having said all that, many people at Action Rifle run chest rigs, at most you need to do two mag changes on the clock.

Sounds like a setup worth looking into. Where did you get your set up from? I can't seem to find a Blade tech holster for CZ SP01s.

Thanks again for all your help. Where do you get your gear? Is it available locally or online?

Oh! For Action Rifle, before you drop $500 on gear, you can seriously(competitively) pull mags out of your cargo pants and jacket pockets, and check out everyone else's stuff to see what you may or may not like. If you choose to run an over belt system like me, make sure to size it so it can fit all the way from a tshirt to your winter clothes.

You're welcome, the more the merrier!
Belt stuff from DS Tactical, highly recommend. I ordered the belt online, and they called me to double check my size to the point of finding an employee with the same-ish waist before shipping.

I concur. Service is excellent at DS. Good gear is expensive so be prepared to pay. That's why your suggestion to see what others are using first before spending $ is a good one.
If the OP is really committed to playing this game, observe, try, ask questions and spend the money. Cheap gear will cost you in the short run!

Ask around and see who's got extra gear kicking around to borrow or buy. Most guys, myself included, swap their stuff around and have a lot of stuff collecting dust. I started off with a chest rig, moved to a battle belt and now have more of a traditional belt set up. All in the quest of faster reloads!

Alright, I will check out DS tactical and start with a belt and basic holster and hope to make it out to the next event to see what everyone else is using. Thanks again guys!

Sounds like a setup worth looking into. Where did you get your set up from? I can't seem to find a Blade tech holster for CZ SP01s.
I get most of my gear from Double Tap Sports their two piece belts are comparable to double alpha, also freedom ventures and select shooting supplies all carry blade tec and are all great shops to deal with.

So, for example, basic belt setup could be something like this and it wouldn't be be too cumbersome to access all your mags?

The holster and pouches would be legal for both sports.

IPSC allows 'outer' belts (velcro'd to an inner belt that passes through the clothing's belt loops).
IDPA doesn't allow the use of 'outer' belts; the belt must pass through the clothing's belt loops.
