Hey guys and gals,
I've got a problem. When putting together a shorty, I ran across, what I'm not sure what it is. Lol!
I go to the gas tube, and yes I had everything lined up in the right direction so the hole lined up. I have done this more than a few times. I put the gas tube in and finish up the upper. Or so I thought. I go to do a spacing check and the bolt is like an inch away from engagement. I'm thinking, oh no, the barrel extension is off by a bit. Closer inspection revealed that the gas tube in the receiver was an inch too long. First thoughts is, I was the moron and invertered the gas block. I took it apart and it was fine. I didn't have any other pistol length gas tunes, but I compared it to the carbine size I did have. Definitely shorter. Either way I go to Google to find out proper lengths. DPMS the pistol length should be 6.625". Mine measured 7.5". However, I look on Brownells and they list the pistol length gas tubes as 7.5".

So does anyone have the exact lengths of all the gas tubes? I have carbine size, but I would need pistol length, midlength and rifle length sizes. I'm still upset with Google and it's many different answers. One spot had said that the gas tube for a pistol was 4.3". I know thats not true.

I'm thinking it's a miss cut by NEA, but I want to have all my ducks in a row for next time. But just for the record, the head spacing was great on the NEA barrel and the gas block from NEA was a nice fit as well. Can't beat the price and quality of that stuff. But crap happens, I guess.

Help please.

What sizes are all the tube sizes? I know you'll know. The pistol barrel is yours. I love your barrels. Why is their 2 lengths of pistol tubes? Is this another weird thing like Commercial and Milspec sizing?
We ordered it off of the NEA website. It doesn't list any different sizes. Of pistol length anyways.

Its probably one of those old time problems where DPMS and someone else made pistol size and they are different sizes. Same as the old Commercial or Milspec buffer tubes.

Our Pistol barrels use a 6.625" gas tube, not the 7.50" tubes. We didn't think to note it in the product information because it would be impossible to mount a 7.5" tube onto a 7.5" barrel for a build. I updated the content to let people know what tube to get. Never assume I suppose.

NEA Gas Tube Lengths
Pistol - 6.625"
Carbine - 9.75"
Mid-Length - 11.75"
Rifle - 15.125"

Just so you can see. This is the NEA/VLTOR Shorty(minus the gastube):

As you can tell, the colour match is pretty Damn close.

Pretty damn nice! I just did a very similar build with all Noveske stuff.

Noveske's new lowers are pretty sweet. I'm waiting to pick up one of them when they become more available. Ya, technically my build is part Noveske with the VLTOR stuff. They are like cousins. Lol!

And thanks, by the way.

I learned something new today. :)

The shorter gas system length would def be better for 300 BLK subsonic functioning.
