Add Red Dot optic to my standard M&P9

I bought a Burris FastFire 3 (3 MOA) last week and mounted it on a M&P CORE. I can endorse this sight. I shot a 2 day pistol match with it. The only practice with it before the match was 10 shots I fired to zero the sight. I had no difficulty in finding the dot quickly. Accuracy improved.

I don't know if height makes any difference when shooting. Logic says a tenth of an inch one way or the other would not matter.

I have the Burris mount that goes into the sight dovetail. I bought it, not realising that the CORE came with its own mount. It would get you shooting right away. $50 shipped.

Hi Guys,

Before anyone asks, I have searched the interweb and this site.

I have tuned my M&P 9 with some polishing, an APEX FSS kit and stippling. It feels great and shoots nicely. What I am looking for now is adding a mini red dot, probably a Burris Fastfire III, and want some advice.

This is not a CORE Pro version with an optic cut. I see my options are:

  1. Get the slide milled for the optic
  2. Buy a mount which uses the rearsight dovetail
  3. Sell the pistol and buy a CORE
  4. Buy a CORE slide

I am in Ontario - is there a good gunsmith who can mill my slide - maybe add some other machining and Cerakoting etc?

A mount using the dovetail will be easy to fit but the sight will be higher than I want.

I don't want to sell my pistol as I really like it and it was the first I bought.

Is there anywhere I can buy a slide?

Cheers in anticipation,
Jim

Casey at Tac Ord who is a site sponsor did my M&P.
Great job, the only thing I noticed is the front mill cut on the slide is straight. I know some guys mill the front cut to the curvature of the RMR. No big deal. Just something I observed.
