In preparation for my first elk hunt I picked up a Superlite in 300 mag, popped it in my McMillan hunters edge off my coyote rig and put my vx6 on top, it was just under 7.4 lbs. picked up a Micro Bastard from prophet river with 9/16-24 thread, and threaded it at the machine shop where I work. The results are pretty dramatic, I haven’t sighted it, but did put 2 offhand into a dirt pile. I would say the recoil is in the 243-308 range now. The barrel was .613” at the muzzle, so too small for 5/8 thread. I read about a lot of guys going to 1/2” threads with a 30 cal brake and it seemed kind of thin. This seemed the best of both worlds. For anyone that has a tikka that runs a little on the snappy side, I would recommend it. Ugly but functional.

What?

I can’t hear you, lol. I had muffs on so it didn’t seem any louder than normal. One consideration is that if the brake does not affect poi much, I could leave it off for hunting, but for a shot or 2 in the field I would only bother with ear protection if I had time. My preference would be to shoot probe off the bipod if the shot allows, and a radial brake is not great on the ground.

You sure thats a micro bastard? I don't know anything about them but their website shows the micro has only 3 ports?

I like everything ‘bout this save the style of muzzle brake, I’m more of a radial type fan myself.

Kudos to the OP for the additions and making it your own however.

I would be curious to know the effectiveness of the radial brakes compared to side fluted. I do prefer the look of the flush fitting radial. At any rate, the rifle was $1000 with only a box of ammo through it (which I suspect was not selling due to the weight/recoil factor) + $240 for the brake, still a better deal than a new rough tech with a brake at $2k. My stock definitely has better ergonomics for recoil management, but shaves 4-6 ounces off the stock weight.

Gotta like a build that comes together under budget and turns out better then expected huh?
