As I'm having some difficulty in finding a .243 with iron sights I'm now wondering costs and feasibility of adding iron sights to a clean hunting barrel.

I'm also looking for feedback on the accuracy I could expect as well as feedback on what sights would be best.

thanks

Is your rifle tapped for a scope mount? What rifle? I prefer a rear peep and front fiber optic ramp.... Most scope hole configurations can accommodate Lyman/Williams/Marbles/Skinner factory peeps... and then add a Williams one piece Fire Sight ramp or similar steel bead ramp if you feel you need more durability... only one hole required for the front ramp.

I am in the process of doing just this with a Mauser 98, planning on a Williams aperture on the rear and a red Firesight on the front. Had a BLR with that setup and really liked it.

Did the site thingy with a brand new model 70 Winchester.. it was a few years ago but I believe I paid about 100.00 plus the cost of the Williams sites . I wanted a gun with open sites and Winchester had a model for a year or so with a detachable clip instead of the floorplate but did not have it with open sites

If you want a rifle out of the box with open sights, the Rem 700 BDL is still produced in 243 Win with them. Also take a look at the Remington 7600 pump action...accuracy wise they'll hang in there with most bolt actions and make many blush! Remington's open sight are by far the most rugged you will find. Take a look on the EE and you'll find take-off listed there fairly often or you can put a WTB ad and someone will surely offer you a set.
