Hi there, i'm hoping somebody out there can share some of their infinite wisdom on this subject. I have a loaded 1911 in .45 acp, it has a rear adjustable sight. I would like to replace this with a fixed 3 dot model. The problem i have is the cut out in front of the sight, can this just be ignored and just look unfinished or rough? Or does anyone know of a replacement option? Thanks for your help. Since i'm new i can't post any pics, pm me if you"d like to see an image. Thanks, Shawn

Since they had to machine away flats in the slide to allow the adjustable sight you're stuck with the flats in front and rear of the fixed sight. Since you only mention the flat in the front I'm guessing you're using something like a Novak which extends back and will cover the flat to the rear of the dovetail. Yes the flat in front of the dovetail will look odd. But it won't affect how the gun shoots.

Another option would be to get a new adjustable that has the two dots to either side if a 3 dot combo is really what you want. Or have someone that is capable drill two divots in your present sight and fill them with white or your choice of paint.
