Question for those with adjustable guns.

I just had an adjustable comb and butt plate installed on my Beretta trap gun.

Took it out to the patterning board, and it is shooting 40/60, about the same as it was before the gun was modified. I want a 60/40, at least a 70/30 pattern.

The question is:

What is the purpose of the adjustable buttplate in your opinion?

When I raise the comb to increase POI, do I adjust the buttplate as well, or are the two adjustments mutually exclusive?

If not, which direction do I move the plate after I adjust the comb up?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

James

Move the comb in the direction that you want to move the pattern. The butt plate is to make the gun fit you in the shoulder area. You can also raise the gun in relation to your shoulder to shoot a more "heads up" style. That is the simple 10 second explanation.

Totally agree with the previous post. Comb adjust the POI. Since you want 70/30, u need to raise the comb. I recommend adding plastic spacers so that the comb will not come down on its own. Adjust the butt plate so that the gun is comfortable when mounted on your shoulder. I lower the butt pad on my gun so that I don't have to bend down my neck as much.

Thanks for the replies. I think I have it figured out. I adjusted the comb to give me a pattern I liked the looks of. Then adjusted the butplate so the pad fits into my shoulder nicely.

Went out shooting today, and smoke rolled most of my targets. Always had lots of chips before, very few inkballs.

Cheers,

James

James, Mount the gun in front of a mirror with your eyes closed. When you open your eyes, the gun should be at 90 degrees to your eyes (they should be level) and the gun should not be canted. You want it to fit nicely into the shoulder pocket. These adjustments are done with the butt-plate. Don't touch the comb.

adamg, for most people, yes.
