Hi all,
I am awaiting delivery of my SVT 40 from Tradex, and I have been doing a bit of research on the rifle. My question is, how do you determine the best setting on the gas valve adjuster? Is there one setting that will suffice in most cases, or does it take a lot of fiddling around to get it set right?
Many thanks!

I'm not familiar with the SVT 40 but back when I was shooting FN1's we would start at the middle setting, fire from the hip and adjust the valve till the action would not cycle then back up. I'm not sure if it was 1 or 2 notches; probably 2 for reliability.

The lower the number on the valve equates to less gas being used to cycle the action.

Start on the lowest setting and adjust upwards until the rifle cycles without problems.

yes start with the lowest setting and work you way up till the bolt cycles properly.

I remember the FN you would set it and as your gas system got fowled you would adjust it 2 clicks at a time till you were on 0.

reason to start low is so that you don't start off with too much gas and beat up your action
